Abstract:
David Reingold is the current Justin S. Morrill Dean of Liberal Arts and Professor of Sociology at Purdue University. This collection primarily focuses on his time working with the Corporation for National and Community Service as Director of Research and Policy Development where he was responsible for managing the agencies research and evaluation portfolio, providing consultation to the CEO on policy development, and working with the White House on the President's USA Freedom Corps initiative. This collection includes paper records as well as digital records.

Background

Biographical / Historical:

David A. Reingold became the Justin S. Morrill Dean of Liberal Arts and Professor of Sociology at Purdue University on March 1, 2015. As the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the College, he is responsible for the departments of History, English, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, and Anthropology, as well as the Brian Lamb School of Communication, the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance, the School of Languages and Cultures, and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Prior to his appointment at Purdue University, Reingold was Executive Associate Dean and Professor of Sociology in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (now the Paul O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs) at Indiana University in Bloomington.

His public service experience includes positions as Director of Research and Policy Development at the U.S. Corporation for National and Community Service, a member of the White House Task Force for Disadvantaged Youth and chair of the Task Force's research committee, Housing Commissioner and Vice-Chairman of the Bloomington Housing Authority Board, Board President of the South Central Community Action Program, and Chair of the Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism. He has served on expert panels for the U.S. National Academy of Public Administration and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He has served on editorial boards for the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Social Service Review, Evaluation Review, the Journal of Urban Affairs, and the Journal of Public Affairs Education.

Scope and Content:

This collection consists of the Papers of David Reingold. The collection covers the years 1991-2009 and provides an overview into the work of David Reingold during his time with the Corporation for National and Community Service as Director of Research and Policy Development where he was responsible for managing the agencies research and evaluation portfolio, providing consultation to the CEO on policy development, and working with the White House on the President's USA Freedom Corps initiative. The files are arranged in alphabetical order. This collection includes both paper and digital records.

The collection is divided into three series: Corporation Files, Subject Files, and Digital Records

Corporation Files, 1995-2004

This series consists of documents related to the Corporation for National and Community Service, including materials over AmeriCorps, Learn and Serve America, and Senior Corps. Correspondence, meeting agendas, handwritten notes over meetings with the CEO, and strategic planning notes about the Corporation are also present.

Subject Files, 1991-2009

This series consists of publications from related nonprofit organizations, foundations, and associations that appear within the collection. Some organizations include America's Promise Alliance, City Year, Girls Scouts, Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism, Points of Light Foundation, and YouthBuild.

Digital Records, 1991-2009

This series consists of the digital files from Reingold's collection. These records include word documents, powerpoint presentations, excel sheets, and emails from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism, and Indiana University Bloomington. The largest portion of the Corporation for National and Community Service subseries focuses on AmeriCorps and Senior Corps, as well as various surveys that were either carried out by the Corporation or prepared by an outside institution for the Corporation. The files over the Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism, now Serve Indiana, are related to AmeriCorps sponsored programming across the State of Indiana. Processed born-digital materials were transferred off the physical media to preservation servers, sensitive material was removed, and the records were reordered. The physical media is not available to researchers.
