Abstract:
The Department of Economics Records include correspondence, curriculum development, minutes, and reports. The records cover the department, its professors, and related programs between 1971 to 1991. The department was formed from the merger of faculties from the Indiana University-Indianapolis Downtown Campus and the Purdue University-Indianapolis Extension on the creation of IUPUI.

Background

Biographical / Historical:

The Department of Economics in the IU School of Liberal Arts was formed from the merger of faculties from the Indiana University-Indianapolis Downtown Campus and the Purdue University-Indianapolis Extension upon the creation of IUPUI. During its first twenty years, the department focused on delivering quality undergraduate education to the growing number of students. The Department of Economics began to incorporate graduate work in the early 1990s with the addition of a master's degree program. In 2010, the department welcomed its first group of Ph.D. students. Thanks to its close proximity with the large medical education community of Indianapolis, the Economics Department was capable of created a Ph.D. program specializing in Health Economics.

Scope and Content:

The Department of Economics Records houses the administrative records, faculty records, and correspondence of the IUPUI Economics Department. This collection, which dates from 1971 to 1991, consists of correspondence, reports, publications, conference papers, and other materials. This collection covers the inner workings and early development of the department in the School of Liberal Arts.
