The Niles mss., 1765-1916, are the law office papers and family correspondence of John Barron Niles, 1808-1879, lawyer of LaPorte, Indiana.

The McCulloch mss., 1766-1914, consist of letters and papers of Hugh McCulloch, 1808-1895, U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, Secretary of the Treasury, and a partner in the London banking house of Jay Cooke, McCulloch & Company.

The Smith, Hamilton mss., 1779-1874, consists of the letters and papers of Hamilton Smith, 1804-1875, lawyer and businessman of Louisville, Kentucky, and Cannelton, Indiana.

The Harrison, W.H. mss., 1779-1922, consists of photostats and transcripts of manuscript and printed material collected by Indiana University history professor Logan Esarey, 1873-1942, for his Messages and Letters of William Henry Harrison, published 1922.

The Judah mss., 1787-1927, consists of the papers of Samuel Judah, 1799-1869, lawyer of Vincennes, Indiana, and members of his family, particularly of his son, Samuel Brandon Judah, 1845-1928, stock raiser of Vincennes, Indiana.

The Boone mss., 1791-1868, consists of the letters and papers of lawyer, teacher, merchant, and politician Benjamin Pennebaker Douglass, 1820-1904, and his second wife, Queen Victoria Boone, 1837-1885.

The W.H. Harrison mss. II, 1794-1834, consists of letters and papers, of William Henry Harrison, 1773-1841, territorial governor of Indiana and ninth president of the United States.

The Harrison Township, Knox County, Indiana mss., 1796- 1888, consists of records of Harrison Township and Knox County, Indiana.

The Lincoln mss., ca. 1798-1959, consist of letters, documents, and facsimile copies of documents by and about Abraham Lincoln, 1809-1865, his ancestors, immediate family, members of his cabinet, and other persons closely connected with him.

The Polke mss., 1809-1868, consist of letters and papers of William Polke, 1775-1843, judge, commissioner for the Michigan road, and perpetrator of the removal of the Potawatomi Indians from their homes and land in Indiana in 1838.

The Orr mss., 1809-1871, are the papers of the Orr family who emigrated from County Tyrone, Ireland, to Monroe County, West Virginia in 1821.

The Noble mss., 1815-1860, consist of letters to members of the family of Noah Noble, 1794-1844, especially to his son-in-law, Alexander H. Davidson, in relation to the settlement of Noah Noble's estate.

The Scott mss., 1817-1937, consists of the papers of Emmet Hoyt Scott, 1842-1924, businessman and mayor of LaPorte, Indiana, his father, Wiley Huntington Scott, 1796-1872, farmer and hotelkeeper of Nineveh, New York, and his son, Emmet Scott, 1873-1937.

The Farmer mss., 1818-1874, consist of the papers of Eli P. Farmer, 1794-1881, clergyman, farmer, and politician.

Consists of letters and papers of Charles Warren Fairbanks, 1852-1918, U.S. senator from Indiana and vice president (1905-1909), and his son, Warren Charles Fairbanks, 1878-1938, newspaper publisher. The Charles Warren Fairbanks material, which comprises the bulk of the collection, consists of correspondence with prominent political figures, businessmen, bankers, friends, relatives and constituents; manuscript and printed speeches of Fairbanks; law office papers; bills and receipts; miscellaneous papers; newspaper clippings; invitations; calling cards; pictures; slides of Fairbanks's trip around the world, 1909-1910; and miscellaneous printed matter. The Warren Charles Fairbanks papers, 1918-1938, relate to the settlement of the estate of his father, Charles Warren Fairbanks; the Indianapolis News; the Fairbanks Blue ridge farms in Piatt County, Illinois; and the Fairbanks Valley farms in Greene County, Illinois.

The Holman mss., 1822-1894, consist of the papers and correspondence of Richard Henry Holman, 1817-1841, lawyer, written chiefly during his attendance at Indiana College at Bloomington; of his father, Jesse Lynch Holman, 1784-1842, judge; and of his brother-in-law, Allen Hamilton, 1798-1864, Indiana state legislator, largely concerned with land speculation and payments.

The Test mss., 1824-1845, consist of correspondence of Charles H. Test, 1802-1884, judge, member of the Indiana General Assembly, and secretary of state of Indiana.

The Lane, J. mss. II, 1825-1960, consist of correspondence and papers of politician Joseph Lane and his family.

The Bicknell mss., 1828-1881, consist of the papers of George Augustus Bicknell, 1815-1891, of New Albany, Indiana, professor of law at Indiana University, 1861-1870, and a member of Congress from Indiana, 1877-1881.

The Thompson mss., 1837-1899, are letters and papers of Richard Wigginton Thompson, 1809-1900, lawyer, judge, Indiana state legislator, U.S. congressman, U.S. secretary of navy.

The Harrison, C. mss., 1838-1841, consists of letters written by Christopher Harrison, 1775-1862, first lieutenant governor of Indiana.

The Rumely mss., 1838-1965, are the papers of Edward Aloysius Rumely, 1882-1964, physician, educator, and public relations man, and papers relating to his ancestors. The papers consist of correspondence with prominent people both in Europe and the United States; an autobiography; documents dealing with his arrest for perjury in July, 1918, and the pardon by President Calvin Coolidge on January 19, 1925; material on his many fields of interest; pictures, and printed matter.

The Huntington mss., 1841-1862, consist of the family correspondence of Elisha Mills Huntington, 1806-1862, Indiana lawyer and judge.

The Hovey mss., 1841-1927, consist of letters and papers of Alvin Peterson Hovey, 1821-1891, governor of Indiana, and correspondence of his daughter, Mrs. Esther (Hovey) Menzies, and Mrs. Deidre Dorothy (Duff) Johnson.

The Magee mss., 1845-1929, consists of the papers of Rufus Magee, 1845-1929, lawyer, Indiana state senator, and diplomat.

The Cravens mss., 1850-1872, consists of the correspondence and papers of farmer, soldier, Indiana legislator, and U.S. congressman James Addison Cravens, 1818-1893.

The Hanna mss., 1853-1879, consists of papers of John Hanna, 1827-1882, United States congressman from Indiana, 1877-1879.

The Colfax mss., 1853-1884, consists of the papers of South Bend, Indiana, newspaperman, speaker of the House of Representatives, and vice-president of the United States Schuyler Colfax, 1823-1885.

The McDonald mss., 1854-1891, are papers of Joseph Ewing McDonald, 1819-1891, U.S. senator.

The Scott mss. II, 1854-1906, consists of the papers of Emmet Hoyt Scott, 1842-1924, businessman and mayor of LaPorte, Indiana, and his brother, Arthur Lee Scott, 1845-1878, businessman.

The Colfax mss. II collection consists of letters, 1856-1876, from Schuyler Colfax to various people.

The Lane, H.S. mss. II, 1858-1871, consist of letters and documents from various people to Indiana politician and U.S. Senator Henry Smith Lane, 1811-1881.

The Courvoisier mss., 1861-1867, consists of the official papers of postmaster of Vevay, Indiana, and treasurer of Switzerland County, Indiana Frederick L. Courvoisier, 1832?-.

The Hunter mss., 1862-1893, consists of the Civil War documents of Morton Craig Hunter, 1825-1896, brevet brigadier general and congressman from Indiana.

The Bowers mss. III, 1868-1972, consist of correspondence, speeches, writings, photographs, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia relating to Claude Gernade Bowers. The correspondence, dating from 1902-1972, is chiefly between members of the Bowers family, with almost five hundred letters from Sybil (McCaslin) Bowers to Claude Bowers before their marriage. Of particular interest are the letters of the 1930's written by Bowers to his daughter Patricia, giving information about personalities and events in Spain. There are also a number of letters from Holman Hamilton to Patricia Bowers.

The Ralston, S.M. mss., 1868-1928, consists of the papers of Indiana Governor and U.S. Senator, Samuel Moffett Ralston, 1857-1925.

The Ralston, B.M.K. mss., 1873-1943, are the letters and papers of realtor of Indianapolis, Indiana and brother of Governor Samuel Moffett Ralston, Boyd Mercer Kerr Ralston, 1860-1944.

The R.B. Harrison mss., 1877-1899, consists of correspondence, papers, and copybooks of Russell Benjamin Harrison, 1854-1936, businessman and lawyer.

The Treanor mss., 1878-1941, consist of letters and papers of Walter Emanuel Treanor, 1883-1941, Indiana University alumnus and judge.

The English mss., 1880, consists of photostats of political letters from Winfield Scott Hancock, 1824-1886, soldier, to William Hayden English, 1822-1896, banker and congressman, made from the originals in the Indiana Historical Society Library, Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Harrison, B. mss., 1888-1965, consists of materials relating to 23rd President of the United States Benjamin Harrison, 1833-1901, and to the projected biography of him by A. T. Volwiler, 1888-1957.

The Bowers mss. II, 1867-1960, consists of the papers of newspaperman and diplomat Claude Gernade Bowers, 1878-1958.
