This collection of interviews primarily covers working-class perspectives of Whiting, Indiana from the 1920s to early 1960s. Topics discussed include unions, Standard Oil and other Whiting industries, politics and political alliances, family structures, discipline, values, ethnicity, religious commitment and change, deindustrialization, and environmental and gender issues.

This project deals with the changes and conditions Calumet, Michigan has undergone since its origins as a copper mining company town. The interviewees discuss the ethnic diversity of the town, effects of the 1913 mining strike, effects of the Great Depression, and local community life.
