Collections

The collection consists of documents from the Birch Bayh Senatorial Papers related to the development of Public Law 96-517, amendments to the Patent and Trademark Laws introduced in the 96th Congress as the University and Small Business Patent Procedures Act and subsequently known as the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980.

The Committee on Appropriations files consist of all administrative and staff files generated in connection with Bayh's service on the Committee on Appropriations and its subcommittees.

The collection consists of papers generated and received by the office of Senator Birch Bayh during his three terms (1963-1980) in the United States Senate representing the state of Indiana, including extensive papers from his legislative work, his chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments, his other Judiciary Committee work, his Senate and Presidential campaigns, and his extensive involvement in economic development in Indiana.

Documentation of legislative activity and voting records and the internal workings of the Legislative Department, including travel for legislative purposes.

Documents generated by Bayh and his staff in connection with the work of the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments and Subcommittee on the Constitution under his chairmanship.

The Speech and Writings series includes drafts, working notes, and supplementary materials collected to support speech-writing, and drafts of books and articles and correspondence related to them.

The Legislative Working Files consist of staff members' files containing research materials, memos, correspondence, and often constituent mail and responses.

The Committee on the Judiciary files consist of all administrative and staff files generated in connection with Bayh's service on the committee and its various subcommittees, with the exception of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments (1963-1976), later Subcommittee on the Constitution (1977-1980), and the Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency, which are covered in separate series.

The Indiana Working Files were created by the staff members assigned to Indiana projects and concerns, most of them working in the Washington, DC office but some from the Indianapolis office as well. They contain working papers, correspondence, resources, and sometimes materials related to legislation.

The collection consists of administrative and staff files generated in connection with Bayh's service on and chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee to Investigate Juvenile Delinquency.
