Iliya Harik was Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington whose research and academic activities centered on Middle Eastern and comparative politics, government, and development. This collection contains a broad range of material related to Harik's academic research and teaching activities and personal life, including articles, drafts, correspondence, research proposals and notes, reports, course syllabi, and lecture notes and audio recordings.

Independent Sector (IS) was founded in 1980 as a coalition of corporate, foundation and voluntary organizations for the purpose of encouraging charitable giving, volunteering and nonprofit activities in the United States. Its mission is to promote, strengthen, and advance the nonprofit and philanthropic community to foster private initiative for the public good. By 2004, the organization maintained a membership of approximately 500 of the nation's leading nonprofit agencies and funders of nonprofit work. The collection consists of board minutes, committee reports, correspondence, publications, lobbying efforts, and conference materials.

The Indiana AIDS Fund (IAF) was founded in 1994 as a private, philanthropic fund-raising and grant-making institution with the goal of supporting HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and services in Indiana. It began as a joint fund-raising and distribution initiative jointly convened by The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis and the Indiana State Department of Health. Their efforts spanned the state geographically, and funding priorities centered on HIV prevention programs, harm reduction programs and advocacy, secondary HIV prevention programs (i.e., slowing disease progress), and at-risk populations including youth, injection drug users, and adults belonging to a range of gender, race, and ethnic groups.

Indiana Campus Compact is a 501(c)(3) non-profit partnership of Indiana's public, private, and community college higher education institutions focused on advocating, implementing, and improving community engagement efforts so that students graduate as well-informed, engaged, and productive members of society who are fully enabled to provide leadership and service that advances the public good in their communities. Indiana Campus Compact is a state affiliate of Campus Compact.

The Indiana FFA Association, formed in 1929, was the 19th state association chartered by the National FFA Organization, an agricultural education organization consisting of 52 chartered state associations including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Each state association is governed by its own constitution approved by the National FFA Organization and is comprised of chapters within secondary schools throughout the state. In 1968 the Indiana FFA Leadership Center was established in Trafalgar, Indiana, to house leadership activities, the State FFA Officers, and state staff. By 2004, the Indiana FFA Association included 9,000 members in 188 chapters statewide.

This collection contains the records of the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunications Service (IHETS) and its related entities. IHETS arose from the passage of the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunications Act by the Indiana General Assembly on March 11, 1967. The service oversaw statewide telecommunications systems connecting university campuses and partner institutions, including voice, video, and data networks.

Indiana Humanities Council (IHC) is a statewide nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis that was established in 1972. The purpose of the organization is to infuse the humanities into people's daily lives by providing grants and programs as one of 56 Humanities Councils affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in the United States. This collection contains documents from two programs related to IHC's work donated by Beth Kloote: Habits of the Heart and the Aspen Summit: Rethinking the Public Humanities conference.

The Indiana Literacy Foundation (ILF) was established in February of 1993, in Indianapolis, Indiana and operated for twelve years until it shut down in January of 2005, citing lack of financial sustainability. The organization, consisting primarily of its board members, worked to provide funds for voluntary literacy programs throughout the state of Indiana while simultaneously operating programs designed to increase awareness of adult literacy concerns and directly provide training for literacy tutors.

The Indian American Community in Fort Wayne interviews focus on those Indian persons who have either permanently or temporarily made Fort Wayne, Indiana their home. These people have moved to Fort Wayne mostly for job-related purposes but have stayed on for other reasons: the excellent education system, the nice environment, and friendly community. The interviewees, some of whom were born here or have spent most of their lives here, share a common respect for Indian religious and social customs, diet, and language. These interviews thus provide keen insight into the ways Indian Americans shape their lives in the American context and how they combine Indian and American culture. This project was co-directed by Professor M. Gail Hickey of the School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne.

This project consists of Indian American views of all aspects of life in the United States and India. Most interviewed in this project were born in India and came to America in search of better education, or because their spouse came for more educational and business oppurtunities. They discuss their reasons for immigrating to the United States, and their reasons for remaining to raise their children. They talk about the ways they practice Indian traditions and values in an American context and the importance of the larger Indian American community in their lives. They also discuss advantages and disadvantages of living in America, and what they miss or don't miss about their homeland of India. Other topics discussed are educational background, work history, religion and religious practice, and raising children. This project was co-directed by Professor M. Gail Hickey of the School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne.

This project, sponsored by a CLIO grant from the Indiana Historical Society, consists of interviews with Indian Americans living in Indiana. The interviewees, the majority of whom were born in India and immigrated to the United States, discuss a variety of topics including: Indian foodways, Indian traditions, Indian national politics, education, career choice, family history, parenting philosophy, reasons for coming to the United States, reasons for remaining in the United States, citizenship and naturalization, marriage and dating customs. media coverage of India, and differences between Indian and American cultures. This project was co-directed by Professor M. Gail Hickey of the School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne.

The Indianapolis Foundation was created in 1916 by the resolution of three financial institutions, the Fletcher Trust Company, Indiana Trust Company, and Union Trust Company. It was officially introduced as one of the first community foundations in the United States in the January 5, 1916, edition of the Indianapolis Star. According to the resolution, income from the Indianapolis Foundation would "be dispersed by said companies on the written order of a board of trustees for such charitable uses as well in its judgment promote the welfare of persons now or hereafter residing in Indianapolis, Indiana." The foundation began making grants in 1924 and today continues to give to Indianapolis organizations to help improve the quality of life in the city.

Indiana Senior Corps Directors Association (ISCDA) was organized to unite all Senior Corps Directors into a state-wide organization. This association combines the three programs, Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and Senior Companion Program (SCP). The by-laws, New Director Handbook, RSVP Director's Manual for New RSVP Directors of Indiana, Words of Wisdom for RSVP Directors, two photographs of RSVP volunteer conference, and RSVP pins are included.

The Alcohol-Drug Information Center was established at Indiana University in 1982, under the name Alcohol Information Center, and is operated by the Division of the Dean of Students. The mission of the ADIC is to provide information on alcohol and other drug abuse substances to the Indiana University community. In 1987, the center changed its name to the Alcohol-Drug Information Center. Dee S. Owens served as the Director of the ADIC from 2000-2012. Recently, the ADIC changed its name to the Office of Alternative Screening and Intervention Services (OASIS). The Collection consists of records documenting the ADIC's general administration grants and programs.

The Indiana University Alumni Association was founded in 1854 as an organization through which graduates could contribute to the pursuit of university interests. Members of the Association held semi-annual meetings, first as the Alumni Association and later in separate branches, including the Alumni Council, established in 1913 (later called the Executive Council). This collection consists primarily of the minutes of the IU Alumni Association, Alumni Council, Executive Council, and Board of Managers meetings spanning 1854-2011.

The American Studies Program was established at Indiana University in 1965. The collection consists of correspondence, fliers, articles, and programs related to conferences, lectures, seminars, and exchange programs sponsored by the American Studies Program.

The Indiana University Apartment and Family Student Council was established at Indiana University in 1967 under the name the Married Students' Council. The organization underwent two name changes throughout its history: in 1978 it became the Family Student Council, and circa 2004 it became the Apartment and Family Student Council. The organization's mission was to foster community and host engaging programming for married students residing with their families on or around campus. The collection consists of materials dated between 1957 and 2013, including meeting minutes; agendas; publications; financial records; correspondence with other key organizations on campus; documentation of various subcommittees; and materials pertaining to topics such as community activities, campus developments, and childcare.

Established in 1941, the Indiana University Art Museum has amassed over 45,000 pieces spanning ancient artifacts to modern works. This collection consists of exhibition catalogs, marketing material, as well as catalogs and advertisements from the museum's earliest days.

The Indiana University Arts Administration Program, part of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs on the Bloomington campus, was conceived in 1970 with the first students beginning the program in the fall of 1972. The program is of an inter-disciplinary nature, drawing on the cooperative efforts of SPEA, the Department of Theatre and Drama, and the Schools of Business, Music, Fine Arts, and Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, with the goal of providing a balance of artistic and business concerns, of theory and hands-on experience. The collection consists of conference and symposium files, correspondence, committee files, general administrative records, and files related to alumni and student projects.

The Asian Culture Center was founded at Indiana University Bloomington in 1998. The Center works to raise awareness facilitate dialogue and cultural understanding within the wider IU community about Asian experiences and issues through advocacy, cultural and educational support, community outreach, funding opportunities, and special events. This collection consists of documents relating to the creation and opening of the ACC, events and programs, student organizations, and the Asian Alumni Association.

The Indiana University Audio-Visual Center (IU-AVC) was a service of the Indiana University Extension Division that produced, collected and distributed educational films and videos to institutions and organizations throughout the United States. The films, videos and all paper documentation that made up this century old film distribution unit of Indiana University was transferred to the IU Libraries in the early 2000's. As part of what is now the core holdings of the IU Libraries Moving Image Archive, in addition to the films and videos that made up the early years of the Archive, the paper teacher's guides that correspond to instructional films and videos spanning the late 1920's into the early 2000's are an important historical record of this history.

The Cultural Studies Program was established circa 1992 and promotes interdisciplinary research with a focus on the relationship between cultural forms and power relations in society. The Cultural Studies Program records spans 1995-2012 and documents various aspects of the program's administration, including budgeting, funding, course scheduling, and staffing, as well as conferences and other events organized by the program.

Established in 1974, the Bloomington Library Faculty Council is the formal representative organ of the library faculty at Indiana University Bloomington. The goal of the BLFC is to strengthen and coordinate the library faculty at Indiana University's flagship campus in Bloomington. The records of the BLFC consist of the administrative files, constitutions, and reports of the council and its various committees, including the secretary's files.

The Board of Aeons was established on March 29, 1921 to function as a link between the student body and the administration. It is composed of 8 to 12 students of at least junior standing and meets regularly but informally once or twice a week with the President, Vice-President, Chancellor or other administrative officials. The Board of Aeons records include minutes, agendas, reports, correspondence, and officers' notebooks.

The Indiana University Trustees serve as the governing board of the university. Created in 1820, the current Board meets six times per year. Among the Board's powers are their capacity to possess all the real and personal property of the university; to expend the income of the university; and to all bylaws necessary to carry these powers into effect. The minutes in this collection include official acts, resolutions, policies, agreements, and other business pertaining to the governance of Indiana University between 1838-1859 and 1883-2017.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees serve as the governing board of the University. Created in 1820, its powers include the capacity to possess all the real and personal property of the university, to allocate the income of the university, and to create or approve all rules necessary to carry these powers into effect. This collection contains agendas, correspondence and reports which support the discussion generated at the official Trustee meetings.

The concept for the Center for Excellence in Education was proposed in 1982 at Indiana University. The Center was created to provide training to educators on using technology within the classroom, and to advance the research of new educational technologies. This collection consists of files regarding the funding for the Center for Excellence in Education and plans for numerous projects.

The Center for Survey Research was established at Indiana University Bloomington in 1981. Its primary function is to serve the academic community and policy researchers through its commitment to high quality survey research. Collection consists of surveys, correspondence, and papers related to surveys performed by the Center and its affiliates. Subjects are varied, but prominent the collection are records related to the Indiana Poll as well as surveys conducted for NASA, 1985-2005.

With a history dating back to 1895, the Chemistry library was initially housed in Wylie Hall, however with the completion of the Chemistry building in the 1930s it relocated and remains in that location to this day. The collection consists primarily of administrative files such as handbook, notes and memos.

The University Club was established at Indiana University in 1959 by combining four older Indiana University clubs: the Men's Faculty Club (established in 1912), the University Women's Club (originally titled the Faculty Women's Club when established in 1913, renamed in 1959), the Women's Faculty Club (established in 1923), and the Newcomer's Club (originally part of the University Women's Club). From 1959 until 1988, the University Club acted as an umbrella organization for the four separate clubs it contained. In this structure each individual club pursued its own programs and also participated in University Club programs. Starting in 1989, however, all programs developed by the four separate clubs have been listed under the rubric of the University Club and have been open to all members of the University Club. The goals of the University Club are to organize and implement social and cultural events.

Indiana University's Collins Living-Learning Center (LLC) was established in 1972 - one of the first in the country - in the Men's Residence Center (MRC). Eventually the LLC took over the entire MRC and was renamed after IU professor and administrator Ralph L. Collins. It has since expanded to include "The Hill," Brown and Greene, and Hillcrest (apartments for juniors and seniors). The Collins community is intentionally academically diverse, and students pursue majors across the university. Collins is host to a wide variety of programs and events planned through one of many student groups such as the Board of Education Programming (BOEP), Arts Council, Community Council, and the Board of Programmers (BOP), or as student Q projects through CLLC-Q 199: Residential Learning Workshop. The materials in the Collection represent both the administrative and student aspects of the Collins Living-Learning Center.

The Commission on Multicultural Understanding was established in 1982 at Indiana University. The organization strove to make IU an environment in which students could feel safe and at home, regardless of race, age, religion, ability, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. The collection consists of minutes, reports, and correspondence regarding the yearly operation of the organization as well as details audiovisual and other educational resources on topics such as race, religion, gender identity, sexual identity, sexuality, and rape awareness.

The "Indiana Cooler" storage ring at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF) was a storage ring for light ions, consisting of a circular magnet lattice of about 100 meters in circumference. The storage ring was built to facilitate the novel technology of electron cooling, which made possible the use of an internal target and enabled unprecedented experiments in nuclear research. The collection includes research notes, log books, administrative documents, correspondence, research proposals, photographs, and illustrations related to the operations of the Cooler storage ring and the nuclear research output that was produced with the use of the Cooler.

Jane Fox, a dancer and faculty member of Indiana University, introduced the art of contemporary dance to the Bloomington campus in 1927 with the inception of the Contemporary Dance Program under the auspices of the Physical Education program (renamed Kinesiology in 1989). While it was first considered a women's extracurricular physical fitness program, it quickly evolved into a respected major and minor field. The program's objective was to teach students to use modern dance to convey ideas and feelings through natural movements. This collection includes scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, program booklets, photographs, film, sheet music, and miscellaneous records pertaining to the Program.

Completed in 1955, the Center was originally known as the Smithwood Center and intended as a new dormitory for female students. In 1960, the Center was renamed Daniel Read Residence Center to honor the late professor of ancient languages who taught Indiana University's first female students. The Council is made up of representative groups from within the Center, including center staff. It oversees any aspect of center life affecting students and staff and serves as an open forum for staff and students to proactively address center issues, to create center programming, to efficiently use community resources, and to help sponsor events. The collection spans the years 1975-2002 and consists primarily of minutes from Council meetings but also includes handbooks and manuals related to the Council and residence hall living. The folders, and the materials in them, are in their original order.

This collection largely reflects the results of research conducted by the Indiana University Department of Astronomy at the Goethe Link Observatory and the Daniel Kirkwood Observatory. The collection discusses equipment and instruments relevant to their work, topics related to the observatories, papers related to the Conference on Red Giant Stars/Cool Star Conference, publications, record books containing collected data, and files about select faculty.

Chemistry has a long history at Indiana University, first being added to the curriculum in 1829 by then-IU President Andrew Wylie. The majority of this collection is comprised of faculty publications, mostly dating from the 1950s to the late 1970s. It also contains a small number of departmental publications, such as the Association of Indiana University Chemists newsletters, and administrative files related to laboratory safety, chemistry departments at regional campuses, and other departmental affairs.

The origins of the Department of Communication and Culture dates from 1975 when the Department of Speech was divided into the Department of Speech Communication and the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. In 1998, the department's name was changed from the Department of Speech Communication to its current title. This collection consists primarily of files from Gregory Waller's tenure as department chair (2003-2011), and it includes departmental administrative records and faculty files.

The origins of the Department of Communication and Culture date from 1975 when the Department of Speech was divided into the Department of Speech Communication and the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. In 1998, the department's name was changed from the Department of Speech Communication to its current title. The collection consists of files related to the administration of the department and course syllabi.

This collection consists of maps, audio recordings, news reports, advertisements, committee notes, photographs, and story transcripts for the campus ghost walks organized by the Indiana University Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology. The ghost walks are annual tours that feature ghost legends tied to well-known places on campus and the Bloomington, Indiana, area.

The Indiana University Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology was formally established in 2000 through the merging of the Department of Folklore (1978-2000) and the Ethnomusicology Institute (1980-2000) and is the parent department of the IU Folklore Institute and IU Ethnomusicology Institute. This collection contains administrative files, subject files, correspondence, files and audio recordings of the Special Projects unit, grant and budget information, and conference files produced by the department and its affiliated institutes from 1942 through 2010.

The Department of French and Italian at Indiana University was established in 1934, when the Department of Romantic Languages split into French and Italian and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. This collection covers the period 1935-2015 and consists of administrative files, such as annual reports, minutes, and newsletters, as well as faculty files that include articles, newspaper clippings, curricula vitae, correspondence, and other material.

The Department of History and Philosophy of Science was established in 1960 "to explore, as an independent field of study, the conceptual development of scientific ideas, as well as their integral logical structure." The collection consists of departmental records, including meeting minutes and correspondence; faculty files; and subject files, including newspaper clippings.

Although military training has a long history at Indiana University, the Department of Military Science and Tactics was established in 1917. The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) fell under the auspices of the department and was a compulsory program for all male students at IU until 1964. The Department of Military Science (Reserve Officers Training Corps) records span the years 1918-2000. These records are organized into seven series: Correspondence, Historical information, ROTC organizations, Publications, Subject files, Realia, and Photos and scrapbooks. The bulk of the collection consists of the Organizations and Subject files series. All series except Correspondence are arranged alphabetically.

Philosophy has been taught at Indiana University since its founding, but it was not until 1929 that the Department of Philosophy was officially established as an independent department. This collection consists of administrative records, many having to do with the department's involvement in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation. There are also class descriptions and schedules, departmental reviews, papers relating to the Ewing Essay Prize, staff meeting minutes and agendas, and other miscellaneous records.

The Indiana School of Religion was established in 1910 to provide and promote Biblical and religious education to student who attended Indiana University. When IU established its own Religious Studies program in 1965, the School struggled until 1970 when it closed its doors and its assets were transferred to the IU program. This allowed the program to become an established department and it is now known as one of the oldest and most prominent in the country. This collection contains the records of the Department organized into four series: Administrative files, Committees, Correspondence, and Publications.

Formerly part of the Department of Slavic Studies, the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures was established as an independent department in 1958. Fields of study in the department include concentrations on the languages, literature, and linguistics of the Slavic and non-Slavic East European peoples. Included in this collection are administrative files, faculty and teaching personnel files, and materials on the language programs and workshops sponsored by the department.

The Indiana University Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers courses and degrees in both Spanish and Portuguese for graduate and undergraduate students. This collection covers a variety of administrative records including minutes, department reviews and plans, faculty information, department event information, and the visit of Ernesto Cardenal.

The Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance originated in the Department of Speech beginning in 1945. The Department offers courses and degrees in theatre, drama, and contemporary dance. This collection contains administrative records from before and after the Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance had split from the Department of Speech. It also contains records and production materials from the University Theatre, Brown County Playhouse, Indiana Theatre Company, and IU Theatre Circle.

The origins of the University Faculty Council can be traced back to a University reorganization begun by university president Elvis J. Stahr. In 1969 the University Faculty began a council for policy and academic decisions for the broader multi-campus University system, as the Bloomington Faculty Council became a legislative body for the faculty on the Bloomington Campus. This collection consists of the agendas, minutes, circulars and supporting documents of the University Faculty Council, the governing body of the university faculty throughout the Indiana University system.

The Indiana University Fine Arts Library opened in 1962 in conjunction with the dedication of the new Fine Arts Building. Betty Jo (B.J.) Irvine served as the Director of the Fine Arts Library from 1969 to 2007. This collection consists of materials related to her tenure as Director of the Fine Arts Library.

The Indiana University Folklore Archives was established in 1956 by Richard M. Dorson of the Indiana University Folklore Institute and grew to comprise 40,000 field collections gathered in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky, before closing in 1990. This collection contains the Folklore Archives' administrative files, special collections of prominent folklorists' research materials, reprints of journal articles, bibliographies, a collection of folksongs, and subject files and index cards on topics that include beliefs, customs, games, jokes, and legends.

The Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Project was a documentary production undertaken by Indiana University's Folklore Institute and Radio and Television Services between 1981 and 1983. The grant-funded project allowed a team of folklorists and film crews to attend the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Festival, a long-running celebration of classic cars and automotive heritage in Auburn, Indiana, 23 miles north of Fort Wayne. The collection consists of materials that trace the evolution of the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Project from planning to debriefing and includes project participants' activities researching and filming the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg festival.

The Indiana University Folklore Institute is an active center of folklore scholarship and has a long history of collecting oral literature and arts. This collection consists of papers written on a variety of topics by students taking courses in the Folklore Institute. These papers are dated roughly between 1967 through the early 2010s.

The Folklore Students' Association (FSA) is a student run organization supported by the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology and Indiana University. The collection consists of correspondence, newsletters, meeting minutes and reports.

Indiana University's Foster Quad Student Government was established shortly after the opening of the dormitory in 1962. The collection consists of minutes, agendas, bills, subject files, publications, and correspondence.

In 1894, Indiana University instituted a standing Committee on Advanced Degrees charged with directing the growing number of students undertaking graduate studies. Formal organization of the Graduate School was authorized by the faculty in 1904, with the continued governance of the Committee until the office of the dean within the IU Graduate School was created in 1908. At that time, the committee emerged as the Administrative Committee and in 1909 became the Graduate Council. As the school's faculty took over the duties of the council in the 1930s, the council was deemed unnecessary and disbanded. However, in the 1950s the Graduate School underwent a reorganization and the Graduate Council was reestablished. The council is still active, meeting monthly during the academic year. Collection consists of memos, proposals, reports, and minutes of the Indiana University Graduate Council.

The first Halls of Residence Library at Indiana University was created in 1940. It was located in the Men's Residence Center (now the Collins Living-Learning Center). The idea for these libraries came from President Herman B Wells and Halls of Residence Director Alice Nelson, who had visited schools in the east and seen these types of libraries being utilized in university settings. At first administered by the libraries, the Halls of Residence Libraries were transferred to Residential Programs and Services in 2001. This collection includes annual reports, subject files, correspondence and student papers written over the years about the libraries.

This collection contains the records of the High School Journalism Institute from 1947-2003. The Institute was formed to provide secondary students with the opportunity to learn about journalism by offering workshops in newspaper and yearbook publication. There are eight series in this collection: Scholarship and award files; Subject files; Administrative files; Faculty files; Newspaper files; Publications; Scrapbook files; and Photographs.

Founded in 1948, the Hilltop Garden and Nature Center was designed to promote community gardening at Indiana University. From the beginning, Hilltop was jointly sponsored by IU, the city of Bloomington's Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Bloomington Garden Club. Collection includes correspondence, photographs, architectural drawings, scrapbooks, minutes, reports, and publications and records relating to the Hilltop Educational Foundation and Hilltop Garden Council.

The Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages for High School Students (IUHPFL) began operations in 1962 as an intensive summer foreign language and study abroad program for Indiana high school students. The program began with three sites, one each in France, Germany, and Mexico, and by 2018 had expanded to twelve sites in eight countries. The collection consists of administrative documents, promotional materials, teaching and instructional materials, and scrapbooks, ephemera, and photographs.

The I Association (formerly I-Men Association (1913-2006) and I-Women Association (1982-2006)) honors exceptional athletes at Indiana University Bloomington. This collection contains files about I Association alumni events and event planning, Board of Directors meeting information, I Association membership, and email, letter, and memo correspondence between I Association staff and alumni.

The collection consists of the administrative papers from the tenure of Henry H. Remak, who served as director or the Institute for Advanced Study from 1988-1994 and interim director from 1997-1998.

Established as the Regional Economic Development Institute in 1984, the Indiana University Institute for Development Strategies is a university-wide program that focuses on research to promote economic development, and in particular the links between globalization, entrepreneurship, and the strategic management of regions to promote economic development. Directors of the Institute have included Charles Bonser, 1988-1997, and David Audretsch, appointed in 1998. Bonser also served as the first endowed Chair of the Ameritech Fellowship Program, which was established with a grant from the Ameritech Foundation. Research projects funded by this grant targeted major issues related to the new and emerging economies of mature economic regions with emphasis placed on the American Midwest. This collection consists of correspondence, research proposals and reports, publications, annual reports, working papers, committee files, conference and workshop information, and project records. Prominent in the collection is the Director's correspondence series, organized into two sub-series by incumbent, and records relating to the research projects funded by the Institute. The collection also includes files related to the establishment of the Institute, located in the Administration series.

The Latino Cultural Center was established at Indiana University in 1973. It is more affectionately known as La Casa. Its purpose was, and continues to be, to achieve through educational and social programs, a greater historical, political and cultural awareness regarding the latine community. The collection consists of records created by the Latino Cultural Center while under the direction of the Office of Latino Affairs, documents from student organizations, such as Latinos Unidos at Indiana University (LUIU), and other documents realted to the history and interests of the Latino Cultural Center including correspondence, publications, events, annual reports, and subject files.

The mission of the Indiana University LGBTQ+ Culture Center, formerly named GLBT Student Support Services, is to provide information, support, mentoring, and counseling to members of the IU campus and the larger community. The IU LGBTQ+ Culture Center seeks to fulfill their mission through networks, collaboration, education, and outreach in an attempt to create a climate where all members of the community are encouraged to promote and defend diversity. The collection consists of records relating to campus programming, speakers and events, conferences, groups, and office administration. There are also scrapbooks documenting GLBT issues on campus and the LGBTQ+ Culture Center.

Since its inception, the Government Publications Department (GPD) at Indiana University has aimed to offer free access of government publications and other information to the general public. The GPD, now known as Government Information and Kent Cooper Services, houses records from city, county, state and federal governments, as well as many publications from foreign governments and international organizations. The collection consists of correspondence, reports, statistics, policy changes, and other information regarding GPD administration.

The Indiana University Libraries have existed for the length and tenure of the University itself. As the University has grown, so have the libraries, its holdings, and its staff, and this growth has resulted in the 8 campus and more than 10 million volume system that exists today. The Indiana University Libraries' publications consists of publications the Department has published during the period from 1924-2012 including Lilly Library publications.

Since its opening in the Biology Building (formerly Jordan Hall) on January 1, 1998, the Life Sciences Library has provided research materials and services to students of the Biology Department, the Medical Sciences Program, and the Nursing Program. In late 2019, the Life Sciences Library was absorbed into the newly formed Sciences Library, which more broadly covers the sciences at Indiana University Bloomington. This collection includes administrative files and correspondence, handouts and minutes from conferences and working group meetings, and published reports.

Co-sponsored by the Indiana University Alumni Association and Indiana University Bloomington Continuing Studies, Mini University began in 1972 as a unique educational and vacation experience for adults. The collection consists of administrative files, directories and working papers, and visual materials.

Indiana University's Office for Women's Affairs was established on August 15, 1972 in response to the growing awareness of discrimination against women in the academic community. This collection contains over forty years' worth of documents and materials from the OWA's daily operations and interactions with the Indiana University, Bloomington campus. All matters pertaining to the OWA are now handled by the Office of the Dean of Students (for student concerns) or the Provost's office (for staff and faculty concerns).

Since 1976 the Office of International Programs has been the central administrative unit at Indiana University to ensure that teaching, research, and other public services include a global dimension. The Office of Overseas Study is one of four offices under the direction of OIP. Collection includes subject files, reports, committee files, grant proposals, and public relations material. Program files include information on the city and country of particular exchange programs, along with the correspondence of the resident director.

Omega Psi Phi is a predominantly African-American fraternity. The Zeta Epsilon chapter was chartered at Indiana University in 1947. The collection consists of records created and collected by the Zeta Epsilon chapter and includes program materials, minutes and reports from national, district, and local meetings.

Established in 1902, the Panhellenic Association is the coordinating student organization for sororities at Indiana University. Collection consists of correspondence, publications, agendas, budget information, and scrapbooks.

The Indiana University Physical Plant was the central department for university buildings and grounds upkeep from 1959-2015. Prior to 1959 the Physical Plant was part of the Department of Buildings and Grounds. In 2015 the Physical Plant was renamed Facility Operations. This collection includes annual reports and newsletters issued by the department from 1938-2007.

The Polish Studies Center was established at Indiana University on October 30, 1977. The purpose of the Center was to promote activities such as lectures, discussions, academic courses, and an exchange program with Warsaw University that would increase the knowledge and cultural awareness of Poland and Eastern Europe, while bringing the areas closer together. The collection consists of a wide-variety of information pertaining to the various programs, events, lectures, and conferences formed by the Polish Studies Center, along with administrative materials that show the growth and development of the center.

The Population Institute for Research and Training was founded at Indiana University in 1986 as a center for interdisciplinary population studies. The Center's purpose was to facilitate research and training activities related to demography including courses, seminars, and research projects. This collection contains administrative files, information on courses and seminars, and various working papers.

John Ryan was Indiana University's 14th president and served the institution for 30 years. Ryan was instrumental in the creation and inaugurals of eight I.U. charter campuses. This collection consists of Dr. Ryan's president emeritus records, including documents concerning his activities in international affairs and speeches he gave between 1987-2011.

Myles Brand served as the sixteenth president of Indiana University from 1994 to 2002. Collection consists of records from his tenure and includes administrative files and correspondence related to his role as Indiana University President.

The first president of what was then Indiana College was elected by the Board of Trustees in 1829. Gerald L. Bepko served as interim president of Indiana University January through July 2003. Collection consists of one series, Subject files, and is comprised of records collected and created by Bepko and his office during his six month tenure as interim president of Indiana University. A wide range of topics are covered in the records, including IU athletics, the regional campuses, and Bepko's files on the I-69 controversy.

Adam Herbert served as the seventeenth president of Indiana University from 2003-2007. The collection consists of records, correspondence, and administrative files from Herbert's tenure as Indiana University president.

In 1960, due to the development of co-educational living centers, the then-existing Men's and Women's Residence Halls Associations were combined into one co-educational organization, the Residence Halls Association. Records in this collection include but are not limited to correspondence, minutes, memos, publications, election and committee files, and reports from just before its establishment, 1956, through 2007. The bulk of the collection dates between 1980 and 1996.

Established in 1975 as the Annuitants' Association of Indiana University, the Indiana University Retirees Association is an organization for retired IU employees. Its primary purpose is to make information on retirement funds and on local social activities available to its members. The IU Retirees Association records contains correspondence with university administrators, minutes of the board, membership rosters, and copies of the association's newsletter, Newswatch.

The Russian and East European Institute, comprised of several departments at Indiana University, was established in 1958 and is one of the leading area studies centers in the country. The collection consists of funding applications, projects, programs and administrative files related to the institute and it departments.

Initially founded in 1970 as the Indiana University Division of Continuing Education, the School of Continuing Studies was established in 1975 to offer opportunities in education for students who were unable to attend traditional formal university programs. Collection includes correspondence, subject files, catalogs, reports, marketing information, and financial records.

The School of Journalism had its beginnings at Indiana University when the first journalism course was offered in 1891. A Department of Journalism was established in the College of Arts and Sciences in 1911, and in 1974 the department became the School of Journalism. The School of Journalism has had many well-known and successful graduates, including the famous World War II journalist Ernie Pyle. This collection consists of records of the Department/School of Journalism collected and compiled by Marjorie Blewett, an administrative assistant in Journalism from 1965-1980 and placement director from 1980-1990. The records within the collection consist largely of the correspondence and other administrative files generated by the directors or deans of the Department/School of Journalism. The majority of the records were generated by or sent to John Stempel and Richard Gray during the years 1938-1984, but Marjorie Blewett also contributes some her own personal records.

David G. Woods is a leading educator and researcher in the field of music who became the Dean of the Indiana University School of Music on July 1, 1997 and served until 1999. This collection consists of records created and collected during his time as Dean, and it includes the administrative files of his office including correspondence, records on master classes, and plans for the Distance Learning Program.

The Early Music Institute was established as a part of the School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington in 1980, with Thomas Binkley serving as the founding director. The goal of the EMI was to address the needs of students who wanted to pursue studies and advanced degrees in professional performance of early music and collegium directing. Binkley and the EMI also established the Thomas Binkley Early Music Recordings Archive , which consisted of a vast array of sound recordings for the benefit of student performance and scholarship in early music. This collection consists of student, faculty, and project files and includes correspondence, files on curriculum development, events and publicity, and information on the development of the Thomas Binkley Archives.

The School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University was established in 1972 in response to the growing need for trained, public servants at all levels of the government and to the lack of any such programs in Midwest. Collection consists primarily of administrative files of the first two Deans.

Student government at Indiana University was officially formed in April 1948 due in large part to the influence of IU President Herman B Wells. Following a series of name changes, student government in 1973 became known as the Indiana University Student Association (IUSA). In 2019 they changed their name again to Indiana University Student Government (IUSG). This collection consists of the records of the IUSA including: Meeting minutes and agendas; resolutions; administrative files; records of the IUSA President , Vice-President for Senate/ Congress, Vice- President for Administration, Treasurer and the Supreme Court; association, committee and department files; and issue, project and subject files. These records primarily cover the period from 1973-2010.

Indiana University Student Television (IUSTV) began in 2002 under the name of iuTV and serves as Indiana University's only student managed and produced student television station. The mission of IUSTV is to create informative, entertaining, and inspiring broadcast-quality television for the Indiana University and Bloomington community, while at the same time giving students real-life experience in television production and related fields. Records in this collection include administrative information, correspondence, meeting agendas, program lineups, and other related materials.

The University Division was established at Indiana University Bloomington in 1942, under the name of Junior Division. Originally created as a response to wartime conditions, the University Division currently serves as an academic advising system for freshman and sophomore students who have not yet selected a major. The collection consists primarily of records from Sally J. Dunn's tenure (2000-2007) as Dean of the University Division and includes correspondence, records related to University Division programs, brochures, reports, administrative files, advising files, and publications.

The Volunteer Students Bureau was established at Indiana University in the fall of 1969 under the coordination of the Student Activities Office. The organization sought to serve as a place where students could learn about volunteer opportunities in the local and regional area, to coordinate with organizations seeking volunteers and activity promoted student volunteerism through promotional activities on campus. The collection consists of administrative files.
