Collections

The project deals with Latino immigrants, most of whom are from Mexico and have settled in and around Indianapolis, Indiana. The interviewees discuss immigrating, transitioning into life in the United States, the important role religion--Catholicism in particular--plays in their lives, and the active role they take in their communities. Most of the transcribed interviews are in Spanish.

This collection of interviews presents a sampling of life in Burma over the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st century. The interviewees, who are all now living in the United States, share their experiences of growing up in a time of transition and political upheaval within their home country. Many of them were involved with the 1988 demonstrations that took place in Rangoon and nearby villages. Almost all spent some time living in fear of arrest, surviving in refugee camps, and hoping for better opportunity. They express varying opinions of their hope for a future democratic Burma and express their appreciation for the lives they have now. This project was co-directed by Professor M. Gail Hickey of the School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne.

The Drolshagen mss., 2001-2002, consists of the correspondence, manuscript notes, corrected drafts, and line-edited manuscripts of Ebba D. Drolshagen's translation into German of Griefwork, by British author James Hamilton-Paterson.

The Oeser mss., 2001–2009, consists of notes, drafts, page proofs, et cetera of works translated by German language translator Hans–Christian Oeser.

The Engs, Ruth mss., 2001-2010, consist of typescripts, page proofs, correspondence, and research materials for works by health reform scholar Ruth Engs.

The Johnston, Bill mss., 2001-2010, consists of the translations, drafts, notes, and other documents surrounding the translation work of various Polish poets and writers by Professor Bill Johnston.

Michael Richard "Mike" Pence represented Indiana in the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2012. A member of the Republican Party, Mike Pence was elected to represent the 2nd (2001-2003) and 6th (2003-2012) congressional districts of Indiana. The collection consists of papers and electronic records generated and received by the office of Congressman Mike Pence.

The Devenyi mss. consists of the manuscripts, original illustrations, and other relevant materials, ca. 2002, for the miniature book "My Name is Leonard," published by Beaux Art Publishing under the direction of Mary and Paul Devenyi.

The Cotter mss., 2002-2003, consists of drafts and documentation for an interview with the Romanian writer Norman Manea by translator Sean Cotter.

The Pike mss., circa 2002-2003, consist of the translations from German into English made by Burton Pike, 1930- , Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature at The City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center.

The Kelley Student Government (KSG) was founded in 2001 and serves as the official representative voice of the Kelley undergraduate student body in Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. This collection consists of committee and council notes, including those related to the Undergraduate Policy Committee and Executive Board; president's notes; meeting minutes; project ideas, and other materials related to KSG.

The collection consists primarily of interviews conducted by AAAMC Project Manager Jason Housley for the 2005-2006 Indiana Historical Society Exhibit, "Soul and Funk: The Naptown Sound," as well as related production materials and photographs.

This collection of interviews examines the experiences of Japanese Americans in the Indianapolis area. The interviewees, many of whom were born in Japan prior to World War II, focus on what compelled them to move to Indiana and their impressions of a Japanese American community. In particular, the interviewees detail the work of political and social organizations like the Japan America Society and Japanese American Citizens League. These groups' activities combined the fostering of traditional Japanese cultural forms like art, language, and dancing in the United States with political work like the Redress Movement to confront the experience of internment for many Japanese Americans during World War II.

Consists of materials collected by Hamilton during the course of the 9/11 Commission's work to serve as documentation of the process of investigation and creation of the final report

The collection documents the 16-month effort of the former 9/11 Commissioners to develop pressure for implementation of their recommendations, through public education and extensive congressional testimony under the auspices of the 9/11 Public Discourse Project.

Adam W. Herbert served as President of Indiana University 2003-2007. Collection consists of speeches given by President Herbert during his tenure at Indiana University as well as a few speeches he delivered as President Emeritus.

The Smith, Sandra mss., 2004-2015, consist of translator's proofs, manuscripts, and clippings relating to Smith's translations from French to English.

The Upsilon chapter of Theta Nu Xi, a multicultural sorority, was chartered at Indiana University Bloomington in 2004. This collection contains awards, correspondence, new member files, newspaper clippings, and pamphlets pertaining to this chapter.

The Brock, G. mss., 2005-2007, consist of the literary translation manuscripts, correspondence, and papers of poet and translator Geoffrey Brock, who teaches Creative Writing and Translation at the University of Arkansas.

Indiana University Student Television (IUSTV) began in 2002 under the name of iuTV and serves as Indiana University's only student managed and produced student television station. The mission of IUSTV is to create informative, entertaining, and inspiring broadcast-quality television for the Indiana University and Bloomington community, while at the same time giving students real-life experience in television production and related fields. Records in this collection include administrative information, correspondence, meeting agendas, program lineups, and other related materials.

The Kimball, Philip mss., 2006-2007, consists of two full drafts of Max Weber in Oklahoma by author and poet Philip Kimball, 1941-2014.

This collection documents the week surrounding the death of James Brown and the proceeding funeral ceremony. It also consists of documentation highlighting Brown's performance on the Indiana University, Bloomington campus a few months prior to his death.

The Beacons mss., 2006-2008, consists of the administrative files, correspondence, and manuscript materials of Beacons: A Magazine of Literary Translation and its creator and editor Alexis Levitin, 1942-.

The Plath, Sylvia mss. XI, ca. 2006-2011, consists of materials relating to the journal, Plath Profiles.

Consists of papers, audiovisual, electronic records, and memorabilia generated by the office of Joe Donnelly during his tenure as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana's 2nd district from 2007 to 2013 and as a member of the U.S. Senate from 2013 to 2019.

Every Voice and Sing: The Choral Music Legacy of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities is a 5-part series on Black choral music that explores the social/political context of the Civil War/Reconstruction era that brought about the formation of these Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their amazing Singing Groups. The project is collaborative production of EVT Educational Productions, Inc. and JAZZ88.3FM WBGO Radio of Newark, New Jersey. The series was broadcast by over 240 public radio stations.

The Lloyd-Jones mss., 2007-2008, consists of the translator's final edited copy and related material for Paweł Huelle's "The Last Supper" (2008), translated from the Polish by Antonia Lloyd-Jones and published by Serpent's Tail, London.

The Allen, E. mss., 2007-2009, consist of correspondence and proof pages relating to translations into English from the Spanish by Esther Allen.

The Rosenberg, Samuel N. mss., 2007-2009, consist of translations and publication materials by Samuel N. Rosenberg, professor of French and Italian.

The PEN Translation Fund mss., 2007, 2009–2010, consists of sets of applications for PEN Translation Fund grants for the years indicated, together with a list of winners for each year.

Bob Marovich is a gospel music historian, author, and radio host. This collection consists of one series made up of recordings and transcripts of interviews that Marovich conducted with a variety of gospel music pioneers while writing A City Called Heaven: Chicago and the Birth of Gospel Music. The interviews discuss the musicians' lives and careers, as well as spirituality and the gospel genre as a whole.

This collection consists of documentation and one-on-one interviews from the AAAMC's two-day conference on Black rock hosted on the Indiana University-Bloomington campus on November 13-14, 2009. The conference and related activities were open to local and regional musicians, scholars, students, and brought together Black rock musicians from different generations and regions with music critics and scholars to discuss the socio-political history, musical developments, and the future of Black rock.

The Plath mss. VII, ca. 2012, consist of posters, schedules, handouts, programs and other ephemera related to the events surrounding the Sylvia Plath 70th Year Literary Symposium, 2002 and the Sylvia Plath Symposium 2012 - The October Poems: the Archives and the Creative Process Seminar, which were held on the IU Campus.

"Bloomington Cares" Oral History Project was a class project used to study voluntary organizations that focus on historical and cultural activities in the Bloomington community.
