The Bennett, S. mss., 1985-1996, consists primarily of the correspondence of author Patrick O'Brian, 1914-2000, with rare book and manuscript dealer Stuart Bennett, 1950-.

Bernard M. Fry was a librarian and Dean of Indiana University's Graduate Library School from 1967 to 1980. Before his time at IU, Fry served in various librarian and bibliographer positions at Mary Washington College, the Library of Congress, US Army Corps of Engineers, the Atomic Energy Commission, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Commerce. His papers include his research, writings, materials related to his association with Pergamon Press, and correspondence related to his professional activities before his tenure at IU.

The Bernays mss., 1890-1955, consists of manuscripts collected by Louise (Lee) Bernays, 1888-1974, librarian of The Indianapolis News for twenty-three years.

The Bernofsky mss., 1993-2007, consists of correspondence, manuscripts, and proofs of translator Susan Bernofsky, 1966-.

The Bernstein mss., 1931-1934, are photostats of correspondence between Thomas Wolfe, 1900-1938, novelist, and Mrs. Aline (Frankau) Bernstein, 1881-1955, stage set designer, and a book review by Wolfe.

The Berrigan mss., 1965-1979 (bulk 1965-1967), consists of letters from poet and editor Thomas Willard Clark, 1941-2018, to poet Ted Berrigan, 1934-1983.

The Berry mss., 1925-1971, consists of the papers of diplomat Burton Yost Berry, 1901-1985.

The Berry mss. II, 1937-1982, consist of the correspondence of United States diplomat and antique collector Burton Yost Berry, 1901-1985.

Bert J. Vos was a professor of German at Indiana University from 1908-1937, and Professor Emeritus of German from 1937-1945. Collection primarily consists of research notes relating to Vos' publications.

The Berwald mss., 1890-1925, consists of original artwork for German book covers by book illustrator Ludwig Berwald, 1865-.

The Best mss., 1852-1862, consists of the letters of bricklayer, plasterer, California miner, and farmer A. Jackson Best, 1820-1862.

The Chi Chapter of Beta Phi Mu, the international honor society for library and information studies, was established at Indiana University in 1971. Collection consists of administrative files that were created by various officers of the Chi Chapter from the first years of the group's existence through 2010.

This collection consists of the personal research, publications, correspondence, and teaching materials of Betty Jo (B.J.) Irvine, the Director of the Indiana University Fine Arts Library from 1969 to 2007. It also contains work related to her activities with professional organizations such as Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA).

Betty van der Smissen was an alumna of the University of Kansas and Indiana University and an educator, writer, and consultant in the field of outdoor recreation and risk management. Contents of this collection date from 1954 through 2008 and consist mainly of teaching material such as course syllabi, correspondence, readings, and exams; research and drafts of publications; handbooks and self-assesment material for park and recreation agency accreditations; and material related to van der Smissen's participation in professional organizations and conferences.

The not-for-profit group Beyond the Pale Productions was founded in 1998 to promote avant-garde and improvisational jazz in the Bloomington, Indiana area. This collection includes includes press releases, newspaper clippings and flyers announcing upcoming concerts as well as background information on individual artists.

This collection contains Big Blue Books published by the Emanuel Haldeman-Julius Company of Girard, Kansas.

The Bill Heim Company provides management and fundraising advice to the leaders of American not-for-profit organizations. The company counsels staff and volunteers at schools, colleges, and universities; historical societies; cultural arts, youth, business, professional, and sports organizations; and foundations. The company's services are used for designing and directing fundraising and membership campaigns, expanding membership, and for program development. The collection contains correspondence, survey reports, speeches, and publications.

The Binford mss., 1837-1871, consists of three ledgers and miscellaneous papers of a Crawfordsville, Indiana, general store operated by William Binford, 1801-1848, and Samuel Binford, 1809-1890.

The Binyon mss., 1916-1943, consists of the correspondence and writings of Sir Laurence Binyon, 1869-1943, poet and keeper of prints and drawings of the British Museum, and Lady Cicely Margaret (Powell) Binyon, 1876-1962, translator, compiler, and author.

In this project, the life and political career of Helen Gahagan Douglas are detailed in the context of her Hollywood connections and California home. Although Douglas briefly enjoyed opera and acting careers, the majority of the interviews focus on her political activities. A Democrat, she served as a representative from California in the United States House of Representatives from 1944 to 1950, before being defeated by Richard Nixon in her bid for congressional senator. In addition, Douglas' personal life and characteristics are important topics in many of the interviews.

This project is comprised of interviews regarding Homer E. Capehart and in particular, his political career as a Republican United States senator from the state of Indiana from 1944 to 1962. Often emphasized in the interviews is Capehart's organization of the Cornfield Conference in 1938 which served to rejuvenate the Republican Party in Indiana. Also much discussed is Capehart's legendary business acumen and status as a wealthy self-made man, proud of his humble origins. Many of the interviews also deal with national politics, Capehart's friends and political opponents, his impact and influence in Congress (through the Senate Banking and Currency Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee), his personal characteristics, communism, and the reasons for his unexpected defeat in 1962 at the hands of Birch E. Bayh, Jr.

This project contains an interview with Marion Woltman, the late Mr. Donnelly's wife. Ms. Woltman, born in 1877, discusses her marriage to the former congressman, author, and vice presidential candidate for the People's Party. She talks about her early childhood, in particular, her emigration to the United States from Norway. Ms. Woltman also speaks about her job as secretary for Mr. Donnelly at the Representative before they were married. Ms. Woltman reflects on her late husband's reading and eating habits and discusses the circumstances surrounding his death in 1901.

This collection primarily covers Roush's time spent as United States Representative (D) from the 5th District of Indiana between 1959 and 1969, though his education and history prior to national politics are mentioned. Major topics of discussion include his campaigns, work on the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and the flood control reservoirs in northern Indiana, as well as his position on the Committee on Science and Astronautics.

This collection of interviews focuses on the political career of John E. Hurt. The bulk of the collection consists of Mr. Hurt's interviews where he speaks about his role as a leading Democratic fundraiser and political advisor to several gubernatorial candidates and governors in Indiana from the late nineteen forties through the early nineteen sixties. The other interviews offer background and specifics about Hurt's political career and actions.

This collection of interviews offers some insight into Dr. Martin Luther King's character and strength as a leader. It also provides some information about the role of adult education in the Civil Rights Movement and how that facilitated social change.

The interviews contained in this project revolve around the life of Melvyn Douglas and include information about his biographical history, his family, his theatrical, motion picture, and television acting career, and his efforts during World War II. The interviewees include fellow actors and actresses, the man himself, former employees, and others who came into contact with Melvyn Douglas throughout his life.

Malcolm A. Hoffman discusses his relationship with Morris L. Ernst, best known for his defense in the censorship case against Ulysses by James Joyce.

Charles Taft discusses politics in Cincinnati during the late 1920s. He talks about his brother, Robert A. Taft, and his political career.

The central focus of this project is the life of William Fortune, who lived from 1863 to 1942. Interviewees are the daughters of Indiana businessman William Fortune, a friend and father-in-law of Eli Lilly. They tell about their life in Indianapolis at the turn of the century and offer recollections of associations with famous people like the Lillys and James Whitcomb Riley.

The collection consists of papers generated and received by the office of Senator Birch Bayh during his three terms (1963-1980) in the United States Senate representing the state of Indiana, including extensive papers from his legislative work, his chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments, his other Judiciary Committee work, his Senate and Presidential campaigns, and his extensive involvement in economic development in Indiana.

The Committee on Appropriations files consist of all administrative and staff files generated in connection with Bayh's service on the Committee on Appropriations and its subcommittees.

Contains files documenting Bayh's work as a member of the Committee on Public Works and chairman of its Special Subcommittee on Disaster Relief (Dec 1969 - Jan 1970) and its Subcommittee on Roads (1971-1972).

The Committee on the Judiciary files consist of all administrative and staff files generated in connection with Bayh's service on the committee and its various subcommittees, with the exception of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments (1963-1976), later Subcommittee on the Constitution (1977-1980), and the Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency, which are covered in separate series.
