Collections

The Binkley, Raglind mss., ca. 1450-1842, consist of medieval fragments collected by Thomas and Raglind Binkley.

The Aristotle mss., 1603-1704, consists of commentaries on the works of Aristotle. At least half of the volumes concentrate on logic, but other subjects are covered as well, including physics and general philosophy.

The Latin American mss.--Miscellaneous 1536-1957 consists of miscellaneous documents from various Latin American countries, compiled from the other Latin American mss., including correspondence, goverment documents, literature, photographs, and other documents.

The Sharpe mss., 1733-1755, consists of papers from the office of John Sharpe, 1700-1756, London solicitor for the British West Indies, relating to the enforcement of the 1733 Molasses Act.

The Shakespear family mss., 1825-1944, consists of the correspondence and papers of the families of Olivia Tucker Shakespear, 1863-1938, and her daughter, Dorothy Shakespear Pound, 1886-1973.

The Woodburn mss., 1795-1942, consist of letters and papers of four generations of the Woodburn family, James Woodburn, 1748-1812, farmer; Dorrance Beatty Woodburn, 1786- 1856, farmer and teacher; James Woodburn, 1817-1865, teacher; and James Albert Woodburn, 1856-1943, historian.

The Todd mss., 1780-1825, consist of letters and papers of General Robert Todd, 1754-1814, of Kentucky.

The Uriarte mss., 1729-1790, consists primarily of the correspondence of Manuel Joaquín Uriarte, 1720-1802, and his diary of missionary life in the province of Mainas.

The Wilkins mss., 1797-1801, consist of official receipts to John Wilkins, 1761-1816, Quartermaster general of the U.S. Army, 1796-1812.

The War of 1812 mss., 1776-1879, consists of individual items acquired separately either as a gift or purchase from a variety of sources, relating to the War of 1812.

The Gathorne-Hardy, J., mss., 1705-2017, consist of the correspondence, family materials, journals, and manuscripts of writer Jonathan Gathorne-Hardy, 1933-2019.

The German legal documents are those legal documents in the German language which have been acquired as individual pieces.

The Poole mss. are a collection of 137 ancient, medieval and renaissance manuscripts and single leaves ranging from the 3rd to the 16th century. The collection was formed by George Amos Poole, 1907- , printer, of Chicago, whose interest was in the development of scripts which have had a direct influence on the design of Western printing types, rather than in illumination and decoration. Most of this material relates to religious matters.

The Pliny mss., 9th cent.-1938, are photostats of Pliny manuscripts assembled by Selatie Edgar Stout, 1871-1969, professor of Latin and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Indiana University.

Consists of a collection formed by Professor Breon Mitchell of first and early editions of bi–lingual dictionaries of languages throughout the world, including the languages of Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific Rim.

The Binkley, Raglind mss., 1450-1842, consist of medieval fragments collected by lutenist Thomas Binkley, 1931-1995, and his wife, Raglind Herrel Binkley, 1940-.

The Lange, W. mss., 1780s-1950s, consists of the collected autographs, correspondence, writings, and publications of scholar and collector Walter Lange.

The Crame mss., 1774-1819, consists of the papers of brigadier general in the Spanish corps of engineers Agustín Crame, -1780.

The collection consists of a group of 28 hornbooks. Also included are two auction catalogs for sales where some of the hornbooks were sold and a description of a hornbook in brass from dealer Patrick King's list no. 11, 1986.

The McCulloch mss., 1766-1914, consist of letters and papers of Hugh McCulloch, 1808-1895, U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, Secretary of the Treasury, and a partner in the London banking house of Jay Cooke, McCulloch & Company.
