Donald E. Hattin served as a professor of geology at Indiana University from 1954 to 1995. His collection consists primarily of materials relating to his research, published works, and teaching files.

Student government at Indiana University was officially formed in April 1948 due in large part to the influence of IU President Herman B Wells. Following a series of name changes, student government in 1973 became known as the Indiana University Student Association (IUSA). In 2019 they changed their name again to Indiana University Student Government (IUSG). This collection consists of the records of the IUSA including: Meeting minutes and agendas; resolutions; administrative files; records of the IUSA President , Vice-President for Senate/ Congress, Vice- President for Administration, Treasurer and the Supreme Court; association, committee and department files; and issue, project and subject files. These records primarily cover the period from 1973-2010.

Leon E. Pettiway was a professor of criminology at Indiana University from 1994-2012. One of his major contributions to the field were a product of his research for the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) where he employed the assistance of former offenders and recovered drug users to conduct interviews of active drug users and offenders in North Philadelphia. This collection consists of interviews conducted as part of that project as well as the data that resulted from them.

Claire Robertson is an Emeritus Professor of Women's Studies and History at Ohio State University and has been a visiting scholar, lecturer, and adjunct professor at Indiana University, Bloomington at various times since 1978. This collection consists of a portion of Robertson's teaching materials, research, and writings on the history and culture of women in Africa, as well as records related to her career and professional activities at Indiana University.

Danny Lee Burton (b. 1938) represented Indiana in the United States House of Representatives from 1983 to 2012. A member of the Republican Party, Dan Burton was elected to represent the 5th and 6th congressional districts of Indiana throughout his time in Congress. The collection consists of papers, audio-visual materials, and electronic records generated and received by the office of Congressman Dan Burton.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees created the Faculty Council in 1947 as a representative council that would conduct the everyday business of the university in close relationship with the administration. With a major university restructuring in 1969, the Council was divided into the current Bloomington Faculty Council and University Faculty Council system. Contained in the collection are the Faculty Council's agendas, minutes, and supporting documents. The collection is organized into four series: Minutes and Agendas, Annual Summaries, Circulars, and Supporting documents.

The Indiana University Student Senate was formed in 1948 due in large part to the influence of IU President Herman B Wells. This collection is predominantly comprised of administrative files such as meetings minutes, bills and resolutions, and subject files covering the period 1938 through 1979.

In 1969 the Bloomington Faculty began their own council for policy and academic decisions, as the University Faculty Council became a legislative body for all faculty in the Indiana University system. This collection consists of the agendas, minutes, circulars and supporting documents of the Bloomington Faculty Council, the governing body of the university faculty on the Indiana University -Bloomington campus. The collection is organized into six series: Agendas, Minutes, Circulars, Supporting documents, Committee Files, and Subject Files.

The Indiana University Trustees serve as the governing board of the university. Created in 1820, the current Board meets six times per year. Among the Board's powers are their capacity to possess all the real and personal property of the university; to expend the income of the university; and to all bylaws necessary to carry these powers into effect. The minutes in this collection include official acts, resolutions, policies, agreements, and other business pertaining to the governance of Indiana University between 1838-1859 and 1883-2017.

The Union Board serves as the governing body for the Indiana Memorial Union, which organizes various events and activities for students on the Indiana University Bloomington campus. Established in 1909, the Union Board has since developed into the largest student programming body at Indiana University. The Collection consists of minutes of Union Board meetings and a variety of administrative documents and materials related to past programs, activities, and events.

The Commission on Multicultural Understanding was established in 1982 at Indiana University. The organization strove to make IU an environment in which students could feel safe and at home, regardless of race, age, religion, ability, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. The collection consists of minutes, reports, and correspondence regarding the yearly operation of the organization as well as details audiovisual and other educational resources on topics such as race, religion, gender identity, sexual identity, sexuality, and rape awareness.

Indiana Campus Compact is a 501(c)(3) non-profit partnership of Indiana's public, private, and community college higher education institutions focused on advocating, implementing, and improving community engagement efforts so that students graduate as well-informed, engaged, and productive members of society who are fully enabled to provide leadership and service that advances the public good in their communities. Indiana Campus Compact is a state affiliate of Campus Compact.

The Robert. A. and Sandra S. Borns Jewish Studies Program was established on the Bloomington campus in 1972 with the aid of a Lilly Endowment. It is now one of the largest and oldest programs supporting the interdisciplinary study of the Jewish people and civilization. The collection consists of the program's administrative and subject files documenting the creation and growth of the program and includes correspondence, reports, newsletters, videos, and photographic material.

The Strategic Directions Charter is an initiative enacted by Indiana University President Myles Brand in 1995 in response to acknowledged fundamental changes in the environment for higher education. The Charter's goal is to enact institutional changes and plans which will sustain the University's excellence, enabling it to emerge as a model for America's New Public University. A steering committee and topical task forces were created to guide Strategic Directions Charter initiatives and review proposed projects for funding. The collection includes administrative documents as well as files from funded and un-funded proposals submitted for rounds one, two, and three (1996-1998) of the Strategic Directions Charter initiative.

The Slocum mss., 1955-2012, consists of the papers of Jerry Slocum, 1931-, and the Slocum Puzzle Foundation.

The "Indiana Cooler" storage ring at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF) was a storage ring for light ions, consisting of a circular magnet lattice of about 100 meters in circumference. The storage ring was built to facilitate the novel technology of electron cooling, which made possible the use of an internal target and enabled unprecedented experiments in nuclear research. The collection includes research notes, log books, administrative documents, correspondence, research proposals, photographs, and illustrations related to the operations of the Cooler storage ring and the nuclear research output that was produced with the use of the Cooler.

The Muller mss., 1910-1967, consists of the papers of Hermann Joseph Muller, 1890-1967, geneticist and Nobel prize laureate, including correspondence; writings and reprints; research and data from his work as well as from his students and colleagues; materials related to conferences; and work with various professional organizations.

The Hughes, R. mss., 1777-1981, consist of the correspondence and writings of British novelist, playwright, and poet Richard Arthur Warren Hughes, 1900-1976.

The Walder, Dennis mss., 1968-2014, consists of the papers of Emeritus Professor of Literature Dennis Walder.

The Potter, Neal mss., ca. 1947-1998, consist of papers, reports, newspaper clippings, ephemera, committee notes from the World Federalist Association Board/Executive Committee, audio tapes, correspondence and annual meeting documents concerning his activities with the Citizens for Global Solutions and the World Federalist Association.

The Sinclair mss. IV, 1900-1963, consists of correspondence, writings, and monetary statements of author Upton Beall Sinclair, 1878-1968, and of his wife, Mary Craig (Kimbrough) Sinclair, 1883-1961.

The Skinner, Robert E. mss., 1966-2013, consists of the scrapbooks, ephemera, theatre programs, and writings of author Robert E. Skinner, 1948-.

The Kael mss., ca. 1939-2001, consists of the papers and correspondence of film critic and author Pauline Kael, 1919-2001.

The Sinclair mss., 1814-1968, consists of the correspondence, writings, and miscellaneous papers of author Upton Beall Sinclair, 1878-1968.

David H. Weaver was a professor in the Indiana University School of Journalism from 1974 to 2011. As a professor, he had a primary focus on teaching research methods and political communication to graduate students and in his earlier years, beginning news writing and editing and public opinion to undergraduates. The content of this collection consists of subject files relating to his publications, research, and professional activities and includes correspondence, drafts and publications, press releases, as well as conference and committee files.

The Vonnegut mss., 1941-2007, consists of the papers of novelist Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007.

Collection consists primarily of interview transcripts, program transcripts, and artist publicity materials used in the production of the Westwood One Radio programs Special Edition, That's Country Music, Rock Chronicles, My Top Ten, and History of Rock 'n Roll. It also contains materials from various specials including programs on Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, and the Rolling Stones.

Joseph C. Muhler was an assistant professor of chemistry at Indiana University from 1951 to 1972, and research professor of dental science and director of the School of Dentistry's Dental Research Institute from 1972 until his retirement in 1984. Muhler was the leader of the team that developed the original formula for Crest toothpaste in the 1950s, and his interests included that of preventative dentistry and its practices. The collection consists primarily of papers related to Dr. Muhler's research interests and his activities at IU, including original research, publications, correspondence, teaching files, student theses and materials relating to professional organizations. Records related to his Crest research are included in the collection.

The Beldon Fund was created in 1978 by environmental philanthropist John R. Hunting as a national foundation focused on advocating for environmental policy. From 1982 to 1998, the Beldon Fund provided grants to organizations like American Environment Inc., the Clean Water Fund, the Ohio Environmental Council, and the Idaho Conservation League. In 1998, John Hunting sold his stock in Steelcase Inc. and endowed Beldon with $100 million, prompting him to rethink the direction of the foundation. Hunting believed that increasing global warming and environmental destruction required immediate attention, and so he planned a ten-year spend-out of the Beldon Fund. Initially, Beldon made grants in five program areas, but in 2001, feedback indicated their scope was too broad for their spend-out timeframe. Beldon refocused into two program areas—the Key States program and the Human Health and the Environment program. The Beldon Fund made its last grants in June 2008 and closed its doors in 2009, after the completion of the spend-out. Over the last ten years of the fund, Beldon spent $120 million in grants and projects. The Beldon Fund Records consist of grant proposals, grant reports, notification of grants, board minutes, executive director records, financial and administrative records, and correspondence.

The James C. Penney Foundation was created in 1954 by the merchant, James Cash Penney, and his wife, Caroline A. Penney. James C. Penney was born on September 16, 1875 near Hamilton, Missouri. In the early 1900s he purchased his first store, called the Golden Rule. His values, emphasizing both the customer and the employee, helped him build a chain of Golden Rule stores that was renamed the J.C. Penney Company, Inc. in 1913. Penney's personal philanthropy began with death of his second wife, Mary. He formed the J.C. Penney Foundation in 1925 in her memory to help support youth programs and the Penney Farms, a retirement community founded by Penney for ministers. The J.C. Penney Foundation folded after the stock market crash in 1929, but Penney regained his personal fortune and renewed his interest in philanthropy over the next two decades. In 1954 he and his wife, Caroline, founded a second foundation, called the James C. Penney Foundation.

The Quixote Foundation was established by Arthur Stuart Hanisch as a family foundation in 1997, and after his death in 2002 the organization adopted a limited-life strategy that resulted in full expenditure of all philanthropic funds by 2017. The foundation espoused a progressive world view, with a majority of grantees working for media reform, election integrity, reproductive rights, environmental equity, and social equality. The records consist predominantly of grant files, with other materials including board meeting minutes, Forms 990-PF, publications, and other materials created by or for the organization.

Since 1983, the Grunwald Gallery of Art, formerly the School of Fine Arts Gallery (SoFA), has presented contemporary works by both professional and student artists in a special exhibition format. The records in this collection include exhibition publicity, audio and visual materials, and photographic slides spanning 1970-2015.

Howard Mehlinger served as a professor within the School of Education from 1965 until his retirement in 1997, at which time he was granted the title Professor Emeritus of Education. During his tenure at IU he served in two major administrative positions: Dean of the School of Education from 1981 to 1989 and as Director for the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) from 1993 to 1999. His major research foci included: issues involving Soviet-United States education and globalization, technology's role in the classroom, and high school social studies education. The content of this collection consists of papers documenting various IU and personal research initiatives, projects, and consulting positions; publications and speaking engagements; professional files; syllabi, reading lists, and documents for various courses, workshops, and seminars he taught at both IU and Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas; and personal, professional, and institutional correspondence.

The Davis, Nathaniel mss., ca. 1947-2010, consists of the papers of diplomat Nathaniel Davis, 1925-2011.

The Welles mss., 1930-1950 (bulk 1936-1947), consists of the correspondence, papers, and memorabilia of actor, writer, producer, and director Orson Welles 1915-1985.

Wayne County, Indiana resident Pauline Montgomery spent most of her life as a Latin and English teacher. The Indiana University alumna was also a local historian and author of one book, Indiana Coverlet Weavers and Their Coverlets. This collection consists of Montgomery's approximately sixteen-hundred photos and negatives of Indiana tombstones and the accompanying ledgers documenting their appearance, locations, and placement dates.

The Harman, Mark mss., 1997, consists of drafts and typescripts of Mark Harman's German-to-English translation of Franz Kafka's The Castle.

The Dodd, Mead mss., 1855-1992, consists of the author/translator agreements, correspondence, and copyright statements of publisher Dodd, Mead & Company.

This collection consists of 139 original reviews of Tennyson's writings and articles about Tennyson, published between 1831 and 1905.

Harris Wofford was a Democratic senator from Pennsylvania, the former CEO of the Corporation of National and Community Service (CNCS, now AmeriCorps), a civil rights advocate, university president, lawyer, and writer. This collection focuses on his work supporting national service, including his time as the CEO of CNCS.

Richard G. Lugar (1932-2019) represented Indiana in the United States Senate from 1977 to 2012. Prior to being elected to the Senate, Lugar served two terms as Mayor of Indianapolis, from 1968 to 1976. The Awards and Memorabilia series contains two- and three-dimensional objects presented to or collected by Richard G. Lugar to commemorate his major activities and accomplishments from before, during, and after his tenure as a United States Senator. The collection contains items such as campaign memorabilia, political cartoons and posters, plaques, trophies, items of clothing, pieces of dismantled nuclear weapons, and other materials.

The collection consists of appointment books, key speeches, documentation of several of the commissions on which Hamilton served subsequent to his retirement from Congress, extensive files of clippings on international affairs and major U.S. policy issues, his personal working notes, and his born-digital Commentaries.

W. Edson Richmond was a professor in both English and Folklore, and Acting Director of the Folklore Institute (1981-1982) at Indiana University, Bloomington, from 1945 until 1986. This collection documents Richmond's research and publishing in the area of Norwegian and Scandinavian language and culture as well as other academic activities, such as instruction and academic advising, service on departmental and professional committees, and participation in folklore conferences and professional societies. Types of material present in the collection include published and unpublished articles, research and instruction notes, correspondence, and programs and brochures.
