William W. Ridenour was born March 13, 1927 and died October 24, 2013. He is the son of William Ridenour and Mildred Daum Ridenour (1900-1997), and brother of Charles J. Ridenour (1931-2013). Rev. Ridenour was a graduate of Indiana University (1950) and McCormick Presbyterian Seminary in Chicago, IL (1955), and served as minister of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church (Indiana) and Reily Presbyterian Church (Ohio) from 1962 to 1981. He went to Ironton, Ohio, but returned to the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church in 1989; he retired in 2000.
Ridenour was a frequent domestically and international traveler and detailed these trips in his journals. He began his journal writing on September 7, 1943 and ended it on May 8, 2013. Ridenour was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 1945 in Camp Gordon, Georgia, and arrived at La Harre, France on November 27, 1945. He was discharged from the Army on November 23, 1946.
The collection is organized into the following series: I. Journals; II. Miscellaneous. Journals include a personal transcription of military tours of duty during World War II. Miscellaneous items include calendars, correspondence, and travel logs.
