Biographical Note

Oeser was born in 1950 in Wiesbaden, Germany. After studying German and Politics at Philipps University in Marburg and the Free University in Berlin, Oeser went on to translate dozens of novels and short story collections, including works by Ian McEwan and Bernard Mac Laverty. He has also written several travel guides and served as an editor, critic, and voice–over artist. Oeser was awarded the Aristeion European Translation Prize in 1997 for Der Schlächterbursche by Patrick McCabe. Since 1980, he has lived in Dublin, where he has held a number of university posts teaching literature, translation, and German language.
