Biographical Note

Jonathan Cohen is a poet, translator, and scholar of Latin American and inter-American literature. Cohen's translations include works by Ernesto Cardenal and William Carlos Williams.

Ernesto Cardenal, 1925-2020, was a Nicaraguan poet-priest and politician who founded a primitivist artists' colony in the Solentiname Islands in 1965.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of correspondence to Cohen from Cardenal, a translated manuscript returned with annotation and clarifications by Cardenal, an edited collection by Cohen, and Cohen's translation of Cardenal's From Nicaragua with Love (City Lights, 1987).
