Biographical / Historical

Joe Donnelly was born in Queens, Queens County, N.Y., September 29, 1955 and received his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Notre Dame. He was elected in 2006 to represent Indiana's 2nd district in the U.S. House of Representatives and served in that capacity until 2013, being a member of the Agriculture, Financial Services, and Veterans Affairs Committees. In 2012 he was elected to the U.S. Senate where he served through January 2019 as a member of the Agriculture, Armed Services, and Banking Committees and the Special Committee on Aging. He was appointed as ambassador to the Holy See in January 2022.
