Background

Biographical / Historical:

The project was conducted and administered by the Indiana State Library during the state's sesquicentennial celebration in 1966. The project was sponsored by the Indiana Sesquicentennial Commission. Copies of the collected manuscripts are also housed at Ball State University, Indiana State University, Notre Dame University, Purdue University. Other libraries in the project are the Fort Wayne-Allen County Public Library, the Indianapolis Public Library, the Indiana Historical Society Library, and the Indiana State Library.

"A Guide to the Indiana Sesquicentennial Manuscript Project" compiled by Thomas Krasean was printed in the Indiana Magazine of History, LXIV (June and September 1968), pp.113-148, 211-246 (Lilly F521 .I395 1968).

The Indiana Sesquicentennial mss., 1786-1967, consists of photocopies or microfilm copies of manuscripts collected throughout Indiana relating to the state's 150 years of historical development. They include account books, business records, church records, county and local history, diaries and journals, early county records and documents, letters, military records, organizational minutes, reminiscences and memoirs, sermons, speeches, and lectures.
