Biographical / Historical:

Fritz Busch, 1890-1951, German conductor and composer.

Born in Siegen, Westphalia, Busch was active as a conductor in Riga, Gotha, Aachen, at the Stuttgart Opera, and at the Dresden Opera. In close sympathy with the work of Max Reger, in 1918, he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the Reger Festival in Jena. From 1934 to 1951, Fritz Busch was the director of the Glyndebourne Music Festival. He conducted opera in South America during 1942 to 1945 and at the Metropolitan in New York from 1945 to 1950. Shortly before his death in London, Busch had accepted the direction of the Staatsoper in Vienna.
