Background

Biographical / Historical:

Jorge María Corbacho (1881-1947), was a Peruvian senator and noted antiquarian collector. Corbacho was the grandson of José María Corbacho y Abril (1785-1843), one of the founding statesmen of Peru. Corbacho was a member of the Peruvian Parliament and a delegate to the Pan American Congress, as well as the founder of the Museo Bolivariano in Lima.

Scope and Content:

The majority of these materials were acquired by Bernardo Mendel and are presently available in the Public Services Department of the Lilly Library.

Documents other than correspondence include printed materials, with articles by Corbachoas well as newspaper clippings concerning him and his work, along with certificates from various academic societies, descriptions of Corbacho's collections, invitations, and photographs.
