Background

Biographical / Historical:

Crone was born in 1875. He earned his B.A. at Indiana University in 1897 and his M.A. in 1921. He was associated with educational system of Philippine Islands, 1901-1916, serving the last 3 years as head of the Islands Education Bureau. Later he was director general of education in Peru, South America. Crone retired in 1950 after 24 years with D.C. Heath and Company.

Scope and Content:

The Crone mss., 1897-1953, consists of letters and papers of Frank Linden Crone, 1875-1960. Series I: Photographs includes eight albums of photographs of the Philippines and a scrapbook of clippings, most of which relate to the Philippines and many of which are concerned with education there. Series II: Newspaper Clippings includes a scrapbook of congratulatory letters, newspaper clippings, etc., September 9-November 5, 1913.Series III: Correspondence includes various letters with correspondents like General James Guthrie Harbord, Jeremiah Whipple Jenks, John S. Potter, Miles Poindexter, Samuel Parkes Cadman, Celedonio Salvador, James Ross, Francis Butler Simkins, and Benjamin Ryan Tillman. It also includes various minutes and a copy of "The Burford Exposure."
