Background

Biographical / Historical:

Patric Dickinson, 1914-2014, was a British poet and translator. He was born in Nasirabad, India on December 26, 1914. He studied at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, then worked for the BBC from 1942-1948. In 1945, he married Sheila Shannon, and they had two children. He is known for his poetry broadcasts on BBC Radio Three and for his translations from Virgil and Aristophanes. His works include a verse play Theseus and the Minotaur (broadcast in 1945, published in 1946), the Personal Portraits biography series, and several books of poetry. He died on January 28, 1994.
