Eric Honeywood Partridge, 1894-1979, was a New Zealand-born English lexicographer, best known for his A Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English (1937).
Ralph Victor Warren Elliott, 1921-2012, professor emeritus, was a German-born Australian professor of English and expert in Middle English poetry, Thomas Hardy, and runology.

The Elliott, R., mss., 1952-1986, consists primarily of letters from lexicographer Eric Honeywood Partridge, 1894-1979, to Ralph Victor Warren Elliott, 1921-2012, professor emeritus, the Australian National University. Other correspondents present include Clement Byrne Christesen, David Crystal, Allan Geoffrey Serle, and Sir Donald Claude Tebbit.
Also present are 21 Christmas/New Year greetings that are 4-page printed leaflet essays prepared annually by Partridge for distribution. Elliott greatly admired Partridge and wrote articles about and reviews of his work for publication in Australia. Manuscripts of seven of these items are present, as well as a file of clippings and miscellaneous printed items relating to Partridge.
