The survey conducted in 1912 and 1913 was entitled "Indiana University Historical Survey, Material for a Historical Directory of the Newspapers and Other Periodicals of Indiana": James A. Woodburn, Director; Samuel B. Harding, Assistant Director; Logan Esarey, Secretary.
- Scope and Content:
The Esarey mss., 1912-1914, consists of the reports of a survey of Indiana newspapers and the draft of a history of newspapers in Indiana based on the survey. Also included are miscellaneous notes relating to that history; a few letters in a separate folder; and an undated typewritten article, signed by Logan Esarey and entitled, "The Indiana Press from 1850 to 1860: A Study of Public Opinion."
Occasionally the survey report will be presented in the form of a letter; or the report will bear a message to Logan Esarey or James A. Woodburn; or it will be accompanied by a letter containing information concerning that particular newspaper.
Note on Indexing Term - "Indiana University": Logan Esarey, history professor was secretary for the survey. Also included is some Esarey family material.
