- Scope and Content:
The Giovannini mss., 1952-1972, consist primarily of correspondence between Professor of English language and literature Giovanni Giovannini, 1906-1985, and poet Ezra Loomis Pound, 1885-1972. Interfiled with this correspondence are letters from Dorothy (Shakespear) Pound, 1886-1973, as well as an occasional letter addressed to Giovannini's wife, Margaret (Cobb) Giovannini, 1909- , also a professor of English.
Other files present include notes made by Giovannini relating to visits with Pound at St. Elizabeths, 1952-1956; a folder of correspondence between Giovannini and businessman Harry Monroe Meacham, 1901-1975, relating to Pound; and a folder of letters from various correspondents, chiefly about Pound and efforts to obtain his release from St. Elizabeths. A few articles and translations by Giovannini and others; some miscellaneous notes and fragments, including lists of books Pound consulted while in the hospital; and a file of newspaper clippings about Pound complete the collection.
