Background

Biographical / Historical:

Beatriz Hausner, 1958-, poet and translator of some twenty–five works of literature, was born in Santiago de Chile in 1958 and then moved with her family to Toronto, where she studied French and Spanish literature at the University of Toronto. She has translated the poetry of Ludwig Zeller, Rosamel del Valle, Enrique Gómez–Correa, Huberto Díaz–Casanueva, Enrique Molina, Olga Orozco, Georges Schehade, and other Spanish–American and French poets closely associated with surrealism. She also has translated the fiction of Alvaro Mutis, as well as several children's books, and is a past president of the Literary Translators Association of Canada.

Scope and Content:

Correspondence includes personal and professional communication with poets, writers, translators and publishers as well as communication related to the founding and operations of Quattro Books, and correspondence related to ALTA conferences and Literary Translators Association of Canada (LTAC) operations. Translations includes manuscripts and proofs of the poems of Ludwig Zeller, drafts of The Mansion, and translation drafts of Café le Dog by Matt Cohen. Professional Files includes items related to translations, writings, ALTA, Canadian writers and translators organizations such as LTAC, and related to the publication of Canadian translation journal Open Letter. Writings includes Hausner's poetry drafts and proofs, reviews of books written by Hausner, drafts and proofs of The Wardrobe Mistress, The Stitched Heart, Sew Him Up, and The Archival Stone. Miscellaneous includes various files related to terminology and other files.
