Background

Biographical / Historical:

Oliver Cary Lockhart, 1879-1975, was an American economist. He was born on January 9, 1879 in Albany, Indiana. He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Indiana University in 1903 and his master's in 1905. He also received a doctorate in philosophy from Cornell University. After receiving his economics degrees, Lockhart worked for a time as a professor of economics and sociology at the Ohio State University. He married Joanna Kenyon Lockhart and they had three children: Elizabeth, Melvin, and Joanna. He also served as a member of the commission of financial advisors to Ecuador and Bolivia, 1926-1927; to China, 1929; and advisor to the Ministry of Finance of the National Government of the Republic of China, 1929-1941. He died on October 28, 1975.

The Lockhart mss., 1927-1935, consists of the papers of economist Oliver Cary Lockhart, 1879-1975. The papers cover his assignments.

Note on Indexing Term - "Law": Many of the papers are concerned with projects to reform the monetary laws of Ecuador, agricultural contracts, the budget, rural property taxes, accounting and auditing laws and regulations in Ecuador, Bolivia and China.
