Background

Biographical / Historical:

Christopher Logue, 1926-2011, was a British poet, playwright, screenwriter, songwriter and actor. He was born on November 23, 1926, in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. He served in the British Army from 1944 to 1948, but he later became a pacifist. One of his first successful works was his adaptation of several of Pablo Neruda's poems, published as The Man Who Told His Love (1958). Logue's most famous adaptation, however, was his reworking of Homer's Iliad, which he published in several sections: Patrocleia (1962), Pax (1967), War Music (1981), All Day Permanent Red (2003), and Cold Calls (2005). He also wrote his own poetry, which was often influenced by jazz music and British politics. In addition to his career as a poet, Logue worked as an actor, playwright, and screenwriter. He also published pornographic novels under the pseudonym Count Palmiro Vicarion. Logue was made a Commander of the British Empire in 2007, and he died on December 2, 2011 in London.
