Background
- Biographical / Historical:
George Barr McCutcheon was an American novelist and playwright. Born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, he is considered among the authors of the Golden Age of Indiana Literature (1880-1920).
- Scope and Content:
The main correspondents in the collection are McCutcheon and Edward Howard Dodd, 1869-1965, or Frank Courtenay Dodd, 1875-1968. The correspondence after 1928 is with Marie Van Antwerp Fay McCutcheon (Mrs. George Barr McCutcheon) or her son, William P. Fay.
Other materials include signed contracts for every title but two that Dodd, Mead published; assignments of copyright for several of the titles; and some correspondence re: film rights, serial rights, and foreign publication.
The first folder contains correspondence and contracts relating to more than one title or to miscellaneous topics. The other files are arranged alphabetically by title of publication and include correspondence about the specific title as well as contracts and copyright assignments when present.
