Taulman Allaire Miller was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey, July 11, 1910. He received his degrees from Amherst College and Yale University; acted as Compliance Officer with the National Recovery Administration, 1934-35, and Investigator with the Connecticut Department of Labor, 1935-36; and during World War II served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. His teaching assignments included Wesleyan University, Middleton, Connecticut, 1936-37, and Indiana University, 1937-77, where he served as chairman of the Economics Department from 1956-65. As a consultant, Dr. Miller worked with the Kansas Legislative Council, Topeka, Kansas, 1960-61, and prepared a study of the Kansas unemployment insurance system. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association's Labor Arbitration Panel; served as consultant to the U.S. Office of Education, 1966, and U.S. Department of Labor, 1969; and was a contractor for the U.S. Agency for International Development in Afghanistan, July 1973-Aug. 1974. As executive officer, American Council of Learned Societies, National Registration Project, he was active in the development of questionnaires and procedures for establishing a national roster of professional personnel in the social sciences and the humanities. He also held membership in the American Economic Association, Society for International Development, Midwest Economics Association, Indiana Academy of the Social Sciences, American Association of University Professors, Phi Beta Kappa, and Beta Gamma Sigma. Taulman Miller died January 24, 1977, at age 67.
