Joseph Goodwin Rogers, 1841-1908, was an Indiana physician.
Career: Born November 23, 1841, at Madison, Indiana; son of Dr. Joseph H.D. and Abby Goodwin Lane Rogers; studied medicine under his father, and at the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York; M.D., Bellevue, 1864; Acting Assistant Surgeon, U.S. Army, 1864-1865; traveled in Europe for two years studying at various clinics; upon return practiced at Madison, Indiana, specializing in ophthalmology; married Margaret Watson of Bedford, Pennsylvania, in June, 1872; professor materia medica and therapeutics in the Indiana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Indianapolis, Indiana, 1875-1876; superintendent of the Indiana Hospital for the Insane, Indianapolis, 1879-1883; medical engineer on the Board of Commissioners for Additional Hospitals for the Insane, 1879- 1883; medical engineer on the Board of Commissioners for Additional Hospitals for the Insane, 1883-1888; 1888, had planned and erected the Northern Hospital for the Insane at Logansport, Indiana, the Eastern Hospital for the Insane at Richmond, Indiana, and the Southern Hospital for the Insane at Evansville, Indiana; appointed superintendent of the Northern Hospital for the Insane, 1888; died, April 11, 1908.

The Rogers mss., 1851-1878, consist of manuscripts of Joseph Goodwin Rogers, 1841-1908, Indiana physician.
The Joseph Goodwin Rogers manuscripts in this collection consist of a diary, 1862, begun in Madison, Indiana, and completed in Cincinnati, Ohio, during the time that Rogers was a student in the Medical College of Ohio; notes on lectures at Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York, 1863-1864; a case book, July 3, 1864-1878, containing a record of medical cases of Civil War soldiers and private patients, a report on "Ague and Remittent Fever in & around Madison, [Indiana], in the Autumn of 1875," and one on "Yellow Fever, 1878" in Madison, Indiana; and memorandum book containing medical formulas, medical notes and some diary entries during his stay in Europe, 1865.
