- Biographical / Historical:
Ernest Vivian Shockley, 1878-1924, received his A.B., 1909; A.M., 1912; and Ph.D., 1913, from Indiana University. His Ph.D. dissertation was on "The Electoral History of Indiana, 1800- 1860." In the field of Indiana history he also wrote "The Constitution of 1851, and Proposals to Amend It" in the Indiana University Bulletin, XI: no. 10, pp. 9-30, 1914. He was one of the editors of L.J. Monks' Courts and Lawyers of Indiana, (Indianapolis, 1916), 3 volumes, and prepared the historical maps for B.F. Bowen and company's Bowen's Indiana State Atlas (Indianapolis, 1917).

The Shockley mss. consists of notes and papers of Ernest Vivian Shockley, 1878-1924, relating to Indiana history. Most of the material is concerned with the electoral history of the state, but Indiana authors and artists, the courts, the state constitution, constitutional conventions, the establishment of free schools, the literature of Indiana history, the history of Monroe County, Indiana, and the history of Steuben County, Indiana, in the Civil War are also treated.
