Background

Biographical / Historical:

Samuel S. Weaver, 1839-1924, was a soldier from Daviess County, Indiana. He was born on June 14, 1839 in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, the son of George S. Weaver and Margaret Osbraugh. On September 12, 1861 he enlisted in the Union Army and became part of Company E in the 27th regiment of Indiana Volunteers. In 1864, after being promoted to the rank of sergeant, he was transferred to Company K of the 70th regiment of Indiana Volunteers, and in 1865 he was transferred again to Company B of the 33rd regiment. After the Civil War ended in 1865, Weaver worked as a farmer in Wheatland, Indiana. He married Anna E. Meuser on May 27, 1868 and they had four children. Samuel Weaver died on April 3, 1924.
