Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Pamela Lyndon Travers, 1899-1996, was an Australian author best known for her series of children's novels about magical nanny Mary Poppins. The first book, Mary Poppins, was published in 1934; other installments in the series include Mary Poppins Comes Back (1935), Mary Poppins Opens the Door (1943), and Mary Poppins in the Park (1952). The property was made into a film by Disney in 1964.
Boris Zakhoder, 1918-2000, was a Russian poet, children's writer, and translator. He translated several Western children's classics into Russian, including Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, and Mary Poppins.

The Travers papers consist of seven letters relating to the Russian publication of Mary Poppins, translated by Boris Zakhoder, 1918-2000, one of the major translators of children's literature into that language. The letters, all from 1969, include an exchange between P.L. Travers, the author, and Zakhoder about the Russian edition, as well as correspondence from the Russian publishers.
