Background

Biographical / Historical:

David H. Ramsay was from Vincennes, Indiana, and was assigned to Company "E" of the 150th Field Artillery.

Scope and Content:

The Ramsay mss. 1917–1919, consist of the postcard correspondence, diary and military papers of David H. Ramsay (1896–) during his enlistment in the army and service in Europe during World War I, 1917-1919.

The diary covers the personal thoughts of Ramsay from his arrival at a military camp in New York through the end of the war and his arrival back in the United States. Great detail is given to the day-to-day occurrences for his unit in France and Germany.

The correspondence is primarily postcards sent from David to his parents. One postcard is sent from a friend of Ramsay's, William White, to Ramsay's parents. Several postcards had pictures of Ramsay in uniform and several postcards were not mailed.

The scrapbook was kept by David's mother and contains newspaper articles which cover local Indiana units in World War I.

One photograph shows the mothers of the men in Company "E." On the reverse are listed their names.

One miscellaneous item is a card to Dr. J. P. Ramsay from a medical clinic in France, advertising a new vitamin.
