Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Edward Campbell Von Tress, 1899-1976, was an Indiana University alumnus, class of 1921. He was born on September 4, 1899 in Monroe City, Indiana. After graduating from Indiana University in 1921, Von Tress returned to the university in 1923 to become Alumni Secretary. In that position he helped develop the Memorial Fund, a financial drive that solicited pledges from both students and alumni. The funds were used to establish three buildings on IU's campus in honor of members of the IU community who had served in the United States military during times of war. One of these buildings would become the Indiana Memorial Union. After his work at IU, Von Tress went on to work in publishing, becoming the Senior Vice President of Curtis Publishing Co. and the manager of Holiday magazine. While at Holiday, Von Tress met Zelia Zigler, who worked as the manager of the travel information service for the magazine. They married on November 3, 1969. Together they moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where Von Tress became Secretary of the IU Alumni Association. He died on July 4, 1976.

The memory book was compiled by Von Tress' wife, Zelia Zigler Von Tress, in 1993.
