Background

Biographical / Historical:

Jan Vaclav Pojer, 1900-1984, founded and oversaw the publishing house Edice Atlantis, publishing 76 titles in Czech, many of which were translated.

Scope and Content:

The bulk of the collection consists of manuscript drafts, related ephemera, and printed issues of "Announcements," or "Oznamovatel," of forthcoming Atlantis Editions, or Edice Atlantis (see Vertical File for complete list of prospectuses within these "Announcements"). Also present are lists of Edice Atlantis titles, printed publicity for Edice Atlantis, a small collection of Pojer's correspondence, and printed materials relating to his death. A selection of studies for the illustrations by Pavel Simon for the 1948 Edice Atlantis edition of Jean LeBrau's Kraj, kde se styska po stinu (Ce pais, où l'ombre est un besoin), complete the collection (see Vertical File for complete list of drawings and woodcut prints).
