Background

Biographical / Historical:

Jerry G. Udell served as Birch Bayh's first intern beginning in 1963 and remained on staff as a special assistant until 1973. Udell took leave in 1966 to help Congressman Lee Hamilton in his first re-election campaign. He left Bayh in 1973 and served as executive assistant to US Senator Mike Gravel of Alaska. Later, Udell worked as Account Executive of Special Tees, Inc. in Rockville, Maryland.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of political manuals and campaign literature relating primarily to the National Democratic Party and to the Democratic Party in Indiana collected by Jerry G. Udell. Also present are programs for the Democratic National Conventions of 1972, 1976, and 1980. A few of the manuals are present in duplicate.
