- Biographical / Historical:
Colleen Dewhurst, 1924-1991, is a Canadian-American theater, film, and television actor known especially for her Eugene O'Neill roles. She won a Tony for her portrayal of Josie Hogan in the 1974 Broadway revival of O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten. On television, she portrayed Marilla Cuthbert in the 1985 Anne of Green Gables miniseries. She was twice married to and twice divorced from actor George C. Scott; together they had two sons. Dewhurst is a two-time Obie Award winner, a two-time Tony Award winner, and a four-time Emmy Award winner.
- Scope and Content:
The Dewhurst mss., 1990-1991, consist of photocopies of typescript drafts of Colleen Dewhurst: Her Autobiography with extensive handwritten revisions. This autobiography, written collaboratively with Tom Viola and Lisa Drew, took over a decade to compile and was published posthumously. The bulk of the collection consists of four drafts of "The Farm," sections of which were used in chapter 14 of the published book.
