Background
- Scope and Content:
The collection consists of Jemima Gill's notebook of written instructions for knitting lace. Patterns include "Laurel Leaf," "Antique Pattern for Anti Macassars," "Nautilus Pattern," "Shell Lace," "Leaf and Point Lace," "Isle of Wight Lace," "Irish Edge," and others. Twelve samples of lace have been inserted between the pages. There is also one chart cut from a magazine.
The notebook, a pre-printed cash book, is from "John Fletcher, Stationer, Manchester." The paper label on the front cover reads: "Jemima Gill, July 12th / 49." At the back, the notebook includes a pamphlet: "Information for Patients arriving at The Eastbourne Convalescent Hospital." An inscription inside the back cover reads: "She had been A teacher At St Peters School upard of six years And was dearly beloved and greatly regretted by her Parents and freinds."
