Background

Biographical / Historical:

Hideaki Nakano, 1935-2013, was a Japanese-American mail artist who operated as "H.N. Local Post." Beginning on July 14, 1980 "with the issuance of a stamp to be used on the covers personally carried aboard Detroit's antique trolley on the way to the GOP National Convention post office for receiving a special cancel" (Nakano, "History of the H.N. Local Post"), Nakano went on to create between 700 and 10,000 covers and stamp sheets, depending on the source referenced. Topics covered in his art include the deaths of prominent figures such as Colonel Sanders and Joe Lewis, space exploration milestones, current events, and erotica.

For more information on Hideaki Nakano and "H.N. Local Post," see "History of the H.N. Local Post" in Volume 1 of the collection.
