  4. Special Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency, Subcommittee to Investigate Juvenile Delinquency, 1963-1976 (Chairman, 1971-1976) (See separate finding aid.)
  5. Subcommittee on Administrative Practice (and Procedure), 1963-1976

  10. Subcommittee on Antitrust and Monopoly (and Business Rights), 1975-1980
  11. Subcommittee on FBI Oversight, 1975-1976

Where known, file labels reflect the staff member who created them. Staff members who contributed to the Judiciary work were, in roughly chronological order:

  1. Larry A. Conrad (LAC)
  2. Clark F. Norton (CFN)
  3. P. J. Mode (PJM)
  4. Mike Helfer (MH)
  5. F. Woodman Jones (FWJ)
  6. Howard Paster (HP)
  7. Tom Connaughton (TC)
  8. Marcia Atcheson (MA)
  9. Nels Ackerson (NA)
Scope and Content:

The Committee on the Judiciary Files include the files of staff members specifically assigned to Judiciary Committee matters as well as files of legislative staff members working on specific Judiciary Committee subcommittee issues. There is overlap between the Committee on the Judiciary files and the files of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments, particularly in the Chief Counsel subseries, and to some extent with the Legislative Working Files as well. In particular, files relating to Miranda rights are to be found in the files of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments.

In early 1977, the Subcommittee on Constitutional Rights was merged with the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments to form the Subcommittee on the Constitution, which also incorporated the work of the Subcommittee on the Separation of Powers. In 1978, issues related to juvenile justice previously handled by the Subcommittee to Investigate Juvenile Delinquency were incorporated into the jurisdiction of the Subcommittee on the Constitution as relating to children's rights while other matters relating to juvenile delinquency were transferred to the Criminal Laws Subcommittee.

There is substantial overlap between materials in the Criminal Justice subseries of the Judiciary Committee files and the files of the Subcommittee to Investigate Juvenile Delinquency, found in a separate finding aid.

Arrangement:

The Committee on the Judiciary files have been grouped according to subcommittee names and archivist-assigned topic areas, then alphabetically by folder labels, which are as received, with some minor modifications and additions for clarity and in some cases adjustment to enable chronological sequence on specific legislation. Two folders with the same name obviously belonging to different staff members have been kept as separate files. Documents within the folders are in chronological order.

Letter-size documents and legal-size and other oversize documents are stored in separate containers. The folder list groups all folders on a given topic together regardless of size, with indications to the left of the relevant box number. Folders with no box number are in the box last indicated above them.
