The Lilly Library is the rare books, manuscripts, and special collections library of the Indiana University Libraries, Bloomington. Its collections represent a diversity of subjects, including literature; children’s literature; history; folklore; science; radio, film and television; book collecting and bookselling; journalism; and translation.
The Pease mss., 1891–1908, consists primarily of letters from author Frank Thomas Bullen, 1857–1915, to the editor of The Morning Mercury, New Bedford, Massachusetts, Zephaniah Walter Pease, 1861– . It also includes letters from Percy Sutherland Bullen and A.P. Watt.
The Palmer, H.E. mss., 1931-1957, are letters and inscriptions of Herbert Edward Palmer, 1880-1961, an English poet, which were removed from printed works in the Book Collection of the Lilly Library.
The Niggeman mss., 1943-1982, consist chiefly of letters from author Nigel Nicolson, 1917-2004, and members of his family, to his father's secretary Elvira Niggeman, 1896-1985.
The Maugham, R. mss., 1936-1967, consists primarily of letters between diplomat and writer Sir Harold George Nicolson, 1886-1968, and author Robin Maugham, 1916-1981.
The MacCarthy mss., 1863-1991, consists of the papers of drama and literary critic Desmond MacCarthy, 1877-1952, and his wife, author Mary (Warre-Cornish) MacCarthy, 1882-1953.
The Hughes, R. mss., 1777-1981, consist of the correspondence and writings of British novelist, playwright, and poet Richard Arthur Warren Hughes, 1900-1976.
