Background

Biographical / Historical:

The IU Logic Group was developed as a multidisciplinary group in logic spanning the departments of computer science, linguistics, mathematics, philosophy, and psychology. The IU Logic Group offered weekly multidisciplinary "applied logic lunches," and weekly logic seminars throughout the school year. Featured speakers were local logicians and a variety of IU faculty members. Subjects covered a variety of logic and applied logic topics. The IULG also sponsored a preprint series which covered a variety of multidisciplinary topics. IULG awarded the Smullyan fellowship, a four-year fellowship for students of logic, from 1990-1996. The program still exists today, as the IU Program in Pure and Applied Logic.

Scope and Content:

The Administrative files series, 1990-1999, consists of four folders. The first folder contains IULG Lecture Fliers from 1993-1999. The second folder includes IULG Seminar Schedules from 1990-1994. The last two folders pertain to the Smullyan Fellowship. The first of these contains announcement fliers from 1990-1996. The second folder includes planning documents for the fellowship, a mailing list and e-mail correspondence concerning the fellowship from 1990-1993. The folders in this series are arranged alphabetically by folder title.

The second series consists of papers written by IU faculty for the IULG Preprint Series, 1991-1995. The files are arranged by the Preprint number, though the series run is not complete. Frequent contributors include J. Michael Dunn and Lawrence S. Moss. The third series, IULG Visitors, consists of information about the guest lecturers that IULG organized.
