Background

Biographical / Historical:

The Alcohol-Drug Information Center was created by the Dean of Students at Indiana University in 1982 and is an office of the Campus Life Division. The ADIC serves students, staff, and faculty to help prevent alcohol and other drug misuse and abuse via dissemination of information, education and research, referral, and programming. The ADIC sponsors the BACCHUS (Boost Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students) student group, an international collegiate alcohol/health education initiative, and a Peer Education Program where Alcohol-Drug Peer Educators are placed in residence halls on campus to provide day-to-day advising. The ADIC is also a sponsor of a Little 500 women's team. The ADIC is funded in part by the Libby Schultz Alcohol Education Fund.

Some of the services and programs the ADIC offers include a resource library, telephone referrals and interviews, and participation in health fairs, national screening days, and other campus campaigns. The ADIC provides education and research services through classroom lectures; faculty/meeting presentations; community liaison; alcohol and marijuana sanctioning classes; internal-unit trainings; public policy; environmental strategies; survey and research assistance and leadership; peer education and leadership; and student organization development and sponsorship.

Dee S. Owens served as the Director of the Alcohol-Drug Information Center from 2000-2012.
