Background

Biographical / Historical:

Woody Allen (b. 1935) is an American director and comedian best known for his films Annie Hall and Hannah and her Sisters. In 1991 Allen began a romantic and sexual relationship with his longtime romantic partner Mia Farrow's daughter, Soon-Yi Previn, who had just finished high school. This relationship, as well as his daughter Dylan Farrow's allegations of molestation and sexual abuse by Allen, led to a lengthy custody dispute, which is addressed in the correspondence in this collection.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of four notes and one signed wine label (Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1949) from Allen to Mia Farrow, ca. 1980s, and one inscribed childhood photo of Allen at a track meet, ca. 1947. Also included are ten letters from Allen to children's author Bruce LaFontaine, 1994-2000, in which Allen discusses his frustrations about his visitation limits with his children.
