Background

Biographical / Historical:

Delta blues guitarist and singer David "Honeyboy" Edwards was born June 28, 1915 in Shaw, Mississippi. During the 1930s and 1940s he performed with legendary blues musician Robert Johnson, as well as other leading Mississippi Delta bluesmen of the era. He released his first record in 1951 and enjoyed a long recording career, receiving a Grammy Award in 2008 for the album "Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen: Live In Dallas" and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. Other honors included the W. C. Handy Blues Award in 2005 and the Blues Music Award in 2007 for Acoustic Blues Artist. Edwards continued to perform until his death on August 29, 2011 at the age of 96. Edwards' autobiography was published in 1997; he was also featured in several films including the 1991 documentary, "The Search for Robert Johnson," and the 2010 award-winning documentary, "Honeyboy and the History of the Blues."

Scope and Content:

The collection includes the original videocassette recordings of the performance made on 2 MiniDV tapes as well as a backup copy made to a single VHS tape.
