Collections

The Cagle mss., 1964-1973, consists of the correspondence of Geoffrey Edward West Household, 1900-1988, novelist; Anaïs Nin, 1903-1977, author; Eric Honeywood Partridge, 1894-1979, author; and Ian Hamilton Finlay, 1925-2006, poet, with William Rea Cagle, 1933- , librarian at Lilly Library, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

The Robbins mss., 1964-1972, consist of correspondence of Indiana University Professor of English J. Albert Robbins, 1914-1992, with poets Robert Fitzgerald and Louis Untermeyer, concerning an American poetry exhibition in the Lilly Library.

The Champigny mss., 1964-1972, consists of the literary manuscripts of Robert Jean Champigny, 1922-1984.

The Winther, O.O. mss., 1963-1967, consist of the letters and book reviews of Oscar Osburn Winther, 1903-1970, historian, of Indiana University.

The Lilly Library Mendel Collection mss., 1961-1974, consist of reference correspondence relating to the acquisition, cataloging, and use of the Mendel Collection of Latin American materials in the Lilly Library. Additions to the collection include financial records and papers relating to the firm Lathrop C. Harper while owned and operated by the Indiana University Foundation, primarily 1967-1968. Also present are some earlier, 1950s, materials that include stock issues and minutes of stock holders meetings.

The Cristini mss., circa 1961-1970, consists of paintings and drawings by opera theatre designer Cesare Maria Cristini , 1906- 1970.

The Kelly mss., 1961, consists of the writings of novelist and IU professor Robert Glynn Kelly, 1920-2008.

The Solt mss., 1960-1974, consists primarily of the correspondence of poet Mary Ellen Solt, 1920-2007, with other poets and writers.

The Lilly Library mss., 1958-1975, consist of the administrative office files of David Anton Randall, 1905-1975, bookman and first Lilly Librarian, and of William Rae Cagle, 1933- , Assistant Lilly Librarian. Both groups are arranged in alphabetical files as maintained in the Lilly Administrative Offices. There is a folder list of contents in the Vertical File. (Original acquisition: ca. 24,000 items) Additions to the collection are the files of William Rae Cagle, Lilly Librarian, appointed Acting after David Randall's death. The files are retained as transferred from the Administrative Offices, arranged in the following chronological categories: 1976-1978; 1979-1980; 1981-1982; 1983-1984; 1985-1987; 1988-1989 (Additions: ca. 25,500 items)

The Norvelle mss., 1957-1959, consist of materials related to the play "Lincoln in Indiana, 1816-1830," adapted by Lee Roy Norvelle, 1892-1984, professor of speech and theatre at Indiana University, from the play, Marked Corners, by Mrs. Francesca (Falk) Miller Nielsen, (Mrs. A. E. Nielsen), 1888-?.
