The William and Gayle Cook Music Library, recognized as one of the largest academic music libraries in the world, serves the world-renowned Jacobs School of Music and the Bloomington Campus of Indiana University. The collection comprises over 700,000 catalogued items on 56,733 linear-feet of shelves. It occupies a four-floor, 55,000 square-foot facility in the Bess Meshulam Simon Music Library and Recital Center, dedicated in November 1995.

This collection includes physical and digitized recordings, photographs, promotional materials, lyric sheets, and album art relating to the music he produced, performed, and composed with various Soviet punk rock musicians and punk rock bands in 1980s Soviet Union, Leningrad.

Contains original manuscripts (scores and parts), as well as copies of manuscripts, working drafts and sketches, published editions, and reel-to-reel sound recordings of Kaufmann's compositions. Materials also include notes and drafts of lectures, articles, and books written by Kaufmann, as well as some of his published writings. Other materials include lecture papers by students, correspondence, concert programs and reviews, photographs, and monographs about the musics of Asia that were the subjects of much of his research.
