Myles Brand served as president of Indiana University 1994-2002. Collection consists of speeches given by Brand during his tenure as President of Indiana University.

Collection consists of speeches given by Thomas Ehrlich during his tenure as president of Indiana University, 1987-1994.

Thomas Ehrlich served as the 15th president of Indiana University, from 1987 to 1994. He graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, serving in several legal and academic posts before his appointment as IU president. The collection consists of administrative files and correspondence related to the performance of duties as IU president.

Dr. John W. Ryan was the fourteenth president of Indiana University, serving from 1971 until 1987. This collection is comprised of his speeches.

The first president of what was then Indiana College was elected by the Board of Trustees in 1829. After President Elvis Stahr resigned in 1968, the Board of Trustees asked University Chancellor and former president Herman B Wells to serve as the interim president. He served in this role from September 1, 1968 through November 30, 1968. Collection consists of records created or collected during Wells' tenure as interim Indiana University president.

The first president of what was then Indiana College was elected by the Board of Trustees in 1829. Joseph L. Sutton came to IU as an instructor in the Dept. of Political Science in 1955 and continued to advance until he came to serve as the thirteenth president of Indiana University from 1968-1971. The collection consists of records created or collected during Sutton's tenure as Indiana University president.

Consists of speeches given by Elvis J. Stahr during his term as President of Indiana University.

The first president of what was then Indiana College was elected by the Board of Trustees in 1829. Elvis J. Stahr, Jr. served as president of Indiana University from 1962-1968. Collection consists of records created or collected by the Indiana University Office of the President during Elvis Stahr's tenure, and includes correspondence, studies, and reports documenting the various administrative processes, committees, events and university departments and schools during this period.

The Regional Campus Coordinating Committee was established in 1966. It was composed of two administrative officers and one faculty member from both Indiana and Purdue Universities and was responsible for reviewing all regional campus program proposals and passing on its recommendations to the Trustees Joint Policy Council. Collection consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, proposals, reports, and research files.

The office of Undergraduate Development was instituted in 1959 by President Wells. The office of Undergraduate Development's responsibility is to encourage the development of the University's undergraduate program and to keep it in balance with the over-all growth of the institution. Collection consists of administrative records of the Vice President and Dean of Undergraduate Development in two series: Administrative files, 1958-1971, containing correspondence, memos, reports, and speeches; Student Affairs files, 1958-1970, containing correspondence, memos, reports, minutes, publications, and newspaper clippings pertaining to student activities on campus.

Herman B Wells was named acting president of Indiana University in 1937 and then president the following year. He served as president until June 30, 1962. After his retirement from the role of president, IU created the position of University Chancellor, a position which Dr. Wells held until his death in 2000. This collection is made up of Wells' speeches given while he served in his role as Chancellor. Speeches include baccalaureate and commencement statements, Sigma Nu fraternity addresses, new building dedications, and a wide variety of speeches, introductions, addresses, and dedications given at Indiana University student and faculty events, as well as local community events.

Herman B Wells served as President of Indiana University 1938-1962. Consists of speeches given by Herman B Wells during his term as President of Indiana University, including 1937, when he served as interim President.

Consists of speeches given by William Lowe Bryan during his tenure as president of Indiana University from 1902-1937.

Ora L. Wildermuth was an Indiana University alumnus and trustee; a lawyer and judge; and a library trustee in both Indiana and Florida. He was also one of the first residents of Gary, Indiana. The papers of Judge Ora L. Wildermuth includes correspondence, diaries, speeches, lectures, and both published and unpublished writings. A great deal of genealogy information can be found in the Wildermuth Family Association series.

Joseph Swain was president of Indiana University from 1893-1902. Organized in two series, the collection primarily consists of incoming correspondence during Swain's tenure. Included are several prominent IU professors such as William Lowe Bryan, David Starr Jordan, and Carl H. Eigenmann as well as a number of well-known public figures.

The University Provost position was created by William Lowe Bryan in 1923 in order to delegate management of the Indianapolis campus to another administrator. Samuel E. Smith held this position until his death in 1928. Collection consists of records of the University Provost in two series: Correspondence and Subject files. The Correspondence series is further organized in three subseries: General, State field nursing, and Construction. The Subject files series contains inventories, records, and reports from a variety of sources. The subject of medicine is most prominent and a good number of the records are about Riley Hospital for Children. Copies of several House Bills can also be found here.

The Board of Trustees was established in 1820 with the founding of Indiana Seminary, and the first president was appointed in 1829. These presidents' reports to the Board of Trustees date from 1881-1949 and include recommendations, financial statements, correspondence, and other documents pertaining to various construction projects, academic department needs and developments, student welfare, finances, and the overall management of the university. The collection also includes one volume of reports (1902-1914) from Indiana University to the state Legislative Visiting Committee.

Charlotte A. Lowe, born September 7, 1867, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was the wife of William Lowe Bryan. The collection consists of personal papers, correspondence, and writings of Charlotte Lowe Bryan in four series: American Association of University Women, 1932-1933, consisting of loan fund reports for the Bloomington chapter; Addresses and presentations, 1929-1937, containing copies of speeches given both by and for Bryan; Correspondence, 1873-1937, containing correspondence both to and from Bryan; and Publications, 1933-1937, consisting of typescripts and galley sheets of articles written by Bryan.

General meetings of the Indiana University faculty began in 1835, to discuss the industriousness of its students, calling student rolls, and hearing reports on the work and standing of each of the students. Disciplinary measures, dismissals, and exams for students were also discussed during many of the meetings throughout the nineteenth century. By the 1920s, the faculty had grown to such a point that it was necessary to create a representative body of the faculty, but the faculty as a whole continued to meet with some regularity. Today the faculty body rarely meet, but may be convened by the IU president, the Secretary of the University Faculty Council, or on petition signed by voting faculty members numbering no less than 5% of all voting faculty members.

William Lowe Bryan was an Indiana University alumnus, professor, and president. This collection includes correspondence, genealogical information, notes, a single journal from 1886, and published and unpublished writings and speeches. Correspondents include family and friends as well as numerous well-known political figures such as Winston Churchill, U.S. Senator Homer Capehart and Eleanor Roosevelt. Frequent correspondents include brother Enoch Albert Bryan, Frank and Sara S. Elliott, Evangeline Lewis, Ruth McNutt, and Herman B Wells.

The Wylie family represented in this collection are all family members or descendents of Indiana University's first president, Andrew Wylie. Many of the earliest family members were closely associated with the university themselves. The collection includes correspondence, financial records, newspaper clippings, obituaries, academic records, journals, scrapbooks, drawings, and poetry. In addition to family affairs, the collection includes information about Indiana University and Bloomington, Indiana, including land deeds and a 19th century account book from Bloomington's McCalla store.
