In 1895, Ulysses G. Weatherly joined the Indiana University faculty, where he remained until his retirement in 1935. Throughout his teaching career, he taught courses in many disciplines, including history, sociology, and economics. This collection consists entirely of his Social Progress manuscript, which includes not only his typescripts but also his handwritten drafts and notes.

Frank de Caro and Rosan Jordan are both folklorists who worked at Louisiana State University. They co-authored several books together. This collection includes drafts and correspondence pertaining to published works, de Caro's family history, as well as some of Jordan's teaching materials and research on Day of the Dead. Included in the collection are an extensive amount of postcards that were collected from various travels.

Clarence Flaten (1910-1974) was Supervisor of Photography at the Indiana University Audio-Visual Center from 1949-1974 and a faculty member in the IU School of Education from 1958-1974. This collection documents Clarence Flaten's family life, professional career at Indiana University, and military service during World War II through photographs, film, correspondence, course materials, publications, military personnel files, and other materials.

Menahem Pressler has been a professor of music at Indiana University, Bloomington since 1955, and an internationally acclaimed concert pianist since 1940. Pressler is recognized as one of the world's premier chamber musicians, solo performers, group artists, and pedagogues, and currently holds the rank of Distinguished Professor of Music as the Charles Webb Chair at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. His papers include biographical information, clippings, and program booklets.

Denis Sinor was a faculty member of Indiana University in the Uralic and Altaic Program (now the Department of Central Eurasian Studies) from 1962 to 2011. Sinor founded the Department of Uralic and Altaic Studies in 1965 and the Asian Studies Research Institute for Inner Asian Studies (now the Sinor Research Institute for Inner Asian Studies [RIFIAS]), both of which he served as director for until his retirement from IU in 1986. He was active in many organizations during his tenure at Indiana University, most significantly the Journal of Asian History (JAH), Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and National Defense Education Act (NDEA). This collection consists of Sinor's correspondence with various organizations, IU, and personal contacts.

Martha Lipton was a prolific performer at the New York Metropolitan Opera as a mezzo-soprano for sixteen seasons. She was a soloist who sang under the direction of many renowned conductors before coming to Indiana University Bloomington as a Professor of Voice in 1960. This collection contains professional promotional materials, clippings and performance programs spanning her career.

York Willbern began his career at Indiana University in 1957 when he was named Professor of Government and director of the Bureau of Government Research. He was one of the founders of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University, and was an accomplished scholar and author of many books and articles on the subjects of cities, public policy-making, urban planning and education for governmental administrative careers. This collection includes correspondence, writings, teaching files, project files, and records on a variety of subjects related to York Willbern's career and interests, including papers related to his book The Withering Away of the City, files on the American Political Science Association, and university committees such as the Urban Studies Committee.

J. Jeffery Auer was a professor in the Department of Speech Communication at Indiana University from 1958-1983, serving as chair of the Department of Speech and Theatre from 1958-1971 and chair of the Department of Speech Communication from 1971-1978. Collection consists of materials relating to Auer's publications, and includes outlines and correspondence. Most prominent are typescripts of his revised edition of Norwood Brigance's Speech Communication.

Dr. Richard Dorson is often cited as the father of American folklore. Over his lifetime he published a large collection of books and articles dealing with how folklore and culture are tied together. Dorson founded the Indiana University Folklore Institute in 1963, and became the first director and Chairman of the Folklore Department in 1978. This collection consists of Dr. Dorson's published articles, correspondence, and research connected to the Gary Project which resulted in the book Land of the Millrats.

Newell Long was a member of the School of Music faculty at Indiana University from 1935 until 1975, while his wife Eleanor taught English from 1939 until 1962. Over the course of their marriage they collaboratively composed a number of pageant scores, musical plays, and skits for university and local celebrations. This collection consists of music scores, programs, scripts and audio visual material.

James G. Witte received a Master of Arts in Economics in 1954 and a Ph.D. in Economics in 1956 from Indiana University. He returned to Indiana University as a professor of economics in 1961, where he remained until his death in 1977. This collection consists primarily of Witte's teaching materials, including lecture notes, course materials, term papers, and student theses; notes on professional conferences he attended, and his writings and research notes.

The University School was a K-12 laboratory school that was founded in 1938 by Indiana University and the School City of Bloomington (later Monroe County Community School Corporation). This collection contains volumes of the Jordannus, a yearbook produced by the middle and high schools, dating from 1939-1979.

The Halls of Residence Committee was established in September 1939 with Ward G. Biddle as chairman. It took the place of a former committee in dealing with the planning and construction of new dormitories and also dealt with matters such as living arrangements, fees, and roommate preferences. Collection consists of the minutes of the committee, but also includes reports such as the occupancy percentage reports from 1940-1971.

The "Big Ten" Intercollegiate Faculty Athletics Committee was formed on January 11, 1895. Indiana University became a member of the Committee in 1899. The general purpose of the Committee was to exert more faculty control over athletics. The records of the Athletics Committee comprise 2.6 cubic feet and span 1940-1964. The majority of the records date to John F. Mee's tenure as chairman, 1951-1962, but there are also records from William R. Breneman's tenure, 1943-1951.

In 1938, Indiana University began to engage in radio activities. A room was set aside for use as a studio and control room, and a radio director and program director were hired. For years, radio classes were taught through several already established departments such as Speech and Journalism. At the Board of Trustees September 20, 1945 meeting, they approved the establishment of a Dept. of Radio as an "unattached" department under the Dean of Faculties. In 1953 it became the Department of Radio and Television within the College of Arts and Sciences and in 1974 the Department of Telecommunications. This collection contains the department chair's records from 1939-1963 and is comprised of correspondence, budgetary information, annual reports, information on various radio and television stations, and subject files. Records span the tenures of chairs Harry Skornia (1942-1953) and Elmer Sulzer (1954-1964).

The Indiana University Extension Division was established in 1912. In 1946, it became part of the Division of Adult Education and Public Services and in 1957, it became the Division of University Extension. Collection consists of correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and memoranda.

A student guidance program was established at Indiana University in the fall of 1939 to help incoming students adjust to college life. Herman T. Briscoe served as the director of the department during its short existence, as in 1942 the program and its responsibilities were replaced by the Junior Division. Collection consists of correspondence, budget files, reports, and the director's committee files. Prominent in the collection are lists of faculty advisors and correspondence regarding the advisory services.

The Central Scholarship Committee was a general committee for evaluating applications for scholarships and student aid. The collection comprises .4 cubic feet spanning 1939-1940. Contains correspondence with members of the committee, legal counsel, and members of similar student aid committees at the university concerning policy and decision-making; letters of inquiry from students and parents about scholarships and loans; lists of candidates for and recipients of student aid and some analytical reports.

The William T. Patten Foundation was founded at Indiana University in May 1931 by Indiana University alumnus William T. Patten. The Foundation hosts scholars from various institutions and disciplines to give lectures in his/her area of expertise. This collection contains files on each scholar who has assumed the role of Patten Lecturer since 1968. The files include recommendations from IU faculty to the Patten Committee, programs, and correspondence, as well as some audio and video recordings of the lectures.

The Indiana University Physical Plant was the central department for university buildings and grounds upkeep from 1959-2015. Prior to 1959 the Physical Plant was part of the Department of Buildings and Grounds. In 2015 the Physical Plant was renamed Facility Operations. This collection includes annual reports and newsletters issued by the department from 1938-2007.
