Howard Mehlinger served as a professor within the School of Education from 1965 until his retirement in 1997, at which time he was granted the title Professor Emeritus of Education. During his tenure at IU he served in two major administrative positions: Dean of the School of Education from 1981 to 1989 and as Director for the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) from 1993 to 1999. His major research foci included: issues involving Soviet-United States education and globalization, technology's role in the classroom, and high school social studies education. The content of this collection consists of papers documenting various IU and personal research initiatives, projects, and consulting positions; publications and speaking engagements; professional files; syllabi, reading lists, and documents for various courses, workshops, and seminars he taught at both IU and Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas; and personal, professional, and institutional correspondence.

Wayne County, Indiana resident Pauline Montgomery spent most of her life as a Latin and English teacher. The Indiana University alumna was also a local historian and author of one book, Indiana Coverlet Weavers and Their Coverlets. This collection consists of Montgomery's approximately sixteen-hundred photos and negatives of Indiana tombstones and the accompanying ledgers documenting their appearance, locations, and placement dates.

W. Edson Richmond was a professor in both English and Folklore, and Acting Director of the Folklore Institute (1981-1982) at Indiana University, Bloomington, from 1945 until 1986. This collection documents Richmond's research and publishing in the area of Norwegian and Scandinavian language and culture as well as other academic activities, such as instruction and academic advising, service on departmental and professional committees, and participation in folklore conferences and professional societies. Types of material present in the collection include published and unpublished articles, research and instruction notes, correspondence, and programs and brochures.

Collection consists of 15 cubic feet of records from the departments under the Division of Biological Sciences spanning 1906-1988. The records are organized in a single series, Subject files. Because the records were in great disarray and the original order was unknown, it was decided it was best to simply arrange the records alphabetically rather than attempt to separate out the various departments. Even so, the collection provides a wealth of information on scientific studies at Indiana University, as the collection consists of correspondence, reports, committee files and more, some dating prior to the development of the Division. The Auxiliary Services Office oversaw offices and departments at Indiana University that were self-supporting and encompassed the Auditorium, Bookstore, Campus Bus Service, Campus Foods, Communications, Halls of Residence, Indiana Memorial Union Building (IMU), Motor Pool and Parking Operations. Over the years, Auxiliary Services had several name changes. Those reflected in the records of this collection include Auxiliary Services, Business Manager's Office, and Service Enterprises. Records in this collection include, but are not limited to, correspondence, committee files, departmental files, reports and budgets.

Dr. John W. Ryan was the fourteenth president of Indiana University, serving from 1971 until 1987. This collection is comprised of his speeches.

Kenneth R.R. Gros Louis was a long time Indiana University administrator. Gros Louis served as Vice President of the entire Indiana University multi-campus system as well as Chancellor of the Bloomington campus. In 1994 Indiana University President, Myles Brand, expanded Gros Louis' role in the university's administration changing his Vice Presidential title to Vice President for Academic Affairs. The collection consists of speeches made by Gros Louis during his academic career between 1979 and 2011.

The American Association of University Women, Bloomington Branch was established on 12 February 1913 as the Association of Collegiate Alumnae with 60 charter members. They later became the AAUW in 1921. The goal of the group was to improve the status of women in higher education and to debunk myths concerning women academics. This collection is comprised of correspondence, financial records, governance files, meeting notes, reports, and scrapbooks. The collection also contains numerous subject files including those relating specifically to the Bloomington branch, and those relating to the Indiana and national divisions of the organization. These files contain materials on the history of the organization, various programs, committees, membership, conventions, and publications relating to the organization.

The University Division was established at Indiana University Bloomington in 1942, under the name of Junior Division. Originally created as a response to wartime conditions, the University Division currently serves as an academic advising system for freshman and sophomore students who have not yet selected a major. The collection consists primarily of records from Sally J. Dunn's tenure (2000-2007) as Dean of the University Division and includes correspondence, records related to University Division programs, brochures, reports, administrative files, advising files, and publications.

In 1938, Indiana University began to engage in radio activities. A room was set aside for use as a studio and control room, and a radio director and program director were hired. For years, radio classes were taught through several already established departments such as Speech and Journalism. At the Board of Trustees September 20, 1945 meeting, they approved the establishment of a Dept. of Radio as an "unattached" department under the Dean of Faculties. In 1953 it became the Department of Radio and Television within the College of Arts and Sciences and in 1974 the Department of Telecommunications. This collection contains the department chair's records from 1939-1963 and is comprised of correspondence, budgetary information, annual reports, information on various radio and television stations, and subject files. Records span the tenures of chairs Harry Skornia (1942-1953) and Elmer Sulzer (1954-1964).

The Center for Survey Research was established at Indiana University Bloomington in 1981. Its primary function is to serve the academic community and policy researchers through its commitment to high quality survey research. Collection consists of surveys, correspondence, and papers related to surveys performed by the Center and its affiliates. Subjects are varied, but prominent the collection are records related to the Indiana Poll as well as surveys conducted for NASA, 1985-2005.

Robert F. Borkenstein worked in various capacities with the Indiana State Police in collaboration with Indiana University before retiring in 1958 and coming to IU full time, serving as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Police Administration until his retirement in 1987. He played a major role in developing the department, which was renamed the Department of Forensic Studies in 1970 and again renamed the Department of Criminal Justice in 1985. Borkenstein was a prolific figure in the fields of forensic science and traffic safety; he is well known for inventing the Breathalyzer in 1954 and for research efforts into blood alcohol concentration through the Grand Rapids Study in the 1960s. This collection consists of biographical documents, research and professional materials, instruments, and subject files. Included are files and instruments related to Borkenstein's research and development of several of his breath test inventions, including the Breathalyzer.

Before becoming president of Indiana University, Herman B Wells served as an assistant cashier at the National Bank of Lebanon before going on to work for the Indiana Bankers Association, the Indiana Commission for Financial Institutions, and the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions. He was named dean of the Indiana University School of Business administration in 1935 by IU President William Lowe Bryan. In 1937 he was named acting president of the university and president the following year, a position he held until 1962. Upon his retirement, IU created the position of University Chancellor, which Dr. Wells held until his death in 2000. This collection consists of Wells' personal papers and includes papers pertaining to his family and personal finances, his activities in the banking profession, his work in Germany for the United States government after World War II, and to his research and teaching and professional activities as a member of the faculty of Indiana University.

Rudy Pozzatti was on the faculty at Indiana University from 1956-1991 and upon his retirement, received the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus. In 1979, he helped found the Echo Press, a printmaking workship in Bloomington. Prof. Pozzatti was recognized as one of the prominent printmakers in the country and has works exhibited throughout the world. This collection consists of Prof. Pozzatti's biographical information, show and exhibition materials, as well as personal correspondence spanning over 50 years. Also included are photographs of his works, plates and woodblocks as well as some original posters. There are no files related to his teaching.

Founded in 1972, the Program for Advanced Studies in Institution Building and Technical Assistance Methodology (PASITAM) was supported by a grant by the Midwest Universities Consortium for International Activities (MUCIA) and represented Indiana University's major contribution to that program. PASITAM's mission was to to acquire, develop, and disseminate information about project design and implementation. Collection is organized in three series: Project, containing files maintained for use in developing their training materials and newsletters; Analytical Skills Workshop, containing files pertaining to PASITAM's major project which produced a series of training modules; and Reports, consisting of PASITAM's annual reports.

Edward Everett Edwards was a researcher and educator in the area of finance and education. As a long-time friend and colleague of Herman B Wells, he became involved in the University first as a student, then as Wells's assistant and as a professor of finance. This collection contains papers that were created or collected chiefly during his time as assistant to Wells, including his research for the University and his work with professional organizations like the Indiana Banker's Association.

The Graduate School at Indiana University was founded, upon the recommendation of the Committee on Advanced Degrees, on February 1, 1904. For many years, a Research Committee handled the many graduate research funding requests until the 1977-1978 school year, when the Office of Research and Graduate Development (R&GD) was established to govern higher research at IU. In 1989, R&GD merged with the University Graduate School to become Research and the University Graduate School (RUGS). To lead this program, George Walker was appointed Dean of the Graduate School and Associate Vice President for Research. The merger combined the financial resources of the two offices while unloading some of the recordkeeping and admission duties onto the individual schools within the university. As a result, RUGS administrators were better able to work on cultivating financial resources and to study graduate student concerns. Prominent in the collection are records reflecting the heavy research mission of the university, such as the files on the many research centers and institutions, which comprises more than half of the collection.

The Indiana University Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology was formally established in 2000 through the merging of the Department of Folklore (1978-2000) and the Ethnomusicology Institute (1980-2000) and is the parent department of the IU Folklore Institute and IU Ethnomusicology Institute. This collection contains administrative files, subject files, correspondence, files and audio recordings of the Special Projects unit, grant and budget information, and conference files produced by the department and its affiliated institutes from 1942 through 2010.

David Starr Jordan joined the IU faculty in 1879 as a professor of natural history. In 1885 at the age of 34, Jordan was appointed President of Indiana University. He served in that position until 1891 when he left IU to become the first president of the newly established Stanford University. The records of his presidency consist primarily of administrative files alphabetically arranged. The records also contain a few of Jordan's writings and addresses.
