In 1953, the University of California, Indiana University, and several other members of the Big Ten conference met and unanimously endorsed a proposal of the president of the University of California to undertake an inter-institutional statistical survey. The survey focused on three broad areas: Administration and general; Instruction and research; and Physical plant. By 1961, their findings had been published and distributed to the participating institutions. Collection consists of raw data, forms, correspondence, meeting minutes, and final reports, primarily originating from the Indiana University administrators participating in the project.

The Dean of Women's Office at Indiana University was created in 1901 and existed until 1946. Duties of the office covered all aspects of coed's lives, from the classroom to a social environment. The collection consists of administrative files created by the Dean of Women's office from 1917-1945.

Fernandus Payne was a Professor in the zoology department and Dean of the Graduate School at Indiana University, where he spent his entire academic career. A small collection, the Payne papers primarily consist of correspondence and include many world-renowned correspondents, such as Nobel Prize winners Hermann Muller and Salvador Luria.

Collection consists of the administrative records of the Auditorium manager spanning 1941-1946. The Administration series covers the managerial decisions and other administrative records of the Auditorium between the years 1941 and 1944 and is arranged alphabetically by subject. Included in the Administration series is a Correspondence subseries organized alphabetically. Prominent correspondents include Krauss and Ward G. Biddle who served as Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Union Board Director, and Chairman of the Dedication Committee. The Events series covers all of the performances, conferences and university related events between the years 1941 and 1946, and is arranged in chronological order.

Frank T. Gucker was the Dean of Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences from 1951-1965. During his tenure as Dean the College of Arts and Sciences tripled in size. He also launched the College's study of foreign areas in 1956 and helped to establish the department of History and Philosophy of Science in 1958. The collection consists of records created and collected by Gucker during his tenure as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

With the retirement of the Indiana University Bursar in 1936, the Board of Trustees created the new administrative position of University Comptroller to manage the university's financial operation. As the university's business manager, the Comptroller had a number of duties including preparation and control of the budget, handling of student loan funds, collection of gifts and bequests and general charge of the physical plant. Ward Gray Biddle served as the first and only Comptroller because in 1942 the university underwent a reorganization and the Comptroller's duties were assumed by other positions. The collection consists of 2 cubic feet of University Comptroller records spanning 1935-1942.

On June 1, 1940, in response to increasing demands upon the President's Office, President Herman B Wells created the position of Dean of Faculties to assume many responsibilities once overseen by the university president. This collection includes records predominantly from the tenure of Ralph L. Collins (1959-1963), Ray L. Heffner, Jr. (1964-1966), Joseph L. Sutton (1966-1968), Joseph R. Hartley (1968-1969), and Henry H. H. Remak (1969-1974) and consists of correspondence, reports, committee files, minutes, and memos.

The School of Letters was originally created by John Crowe Ransom, F.O. Matthiessen, and Lionel Trilling as a part of the School of English at Kenyon College. When support from the Rockefeller Foundation ended, the program moved to Indiana University in the summer of 1951. Collection consists of the records of the Director of the School of Letters 1947-1979, organized in four series. The bulk of the collection is comprised of office files and correspondence between director Newton P. Stallknecht and faculty and guest lecturers. Prominent correspondents include a number of famous American poets and critics such as Randall Jarrell and John Crowe Ransom, as well as noted foreign scholars including the French existentialist philosopher Jean Wahl. Also included in the collection are a sample of student files and files representing Stallknecht's general university activities in his role as director of the School of Letters.

Herman T. Briscoe was the first Dean of Faculties at Indiana University. The new position assumed some of the responsibilties once overseen by the university president. This collection consists of correspondence, reports, committee files, minutes, and memos.
